When can I stop sleeping with the pillow between my legs after THR?  It has been 3 months since surgery.  I wakeup to position the pillows all night long.

Gosh Cindy I gave up the pillow when I was told I could sleep on my side..at 7 weeks.  It is odd tho as when the sleeping questions come up as to when to sleep on side and when to give up pillow between knees etc etc it seems there are many many contradicting posts...all have been given different advice from their surgeons..

Good luck anyway.  I am now 4 months post op.  still have probs getting out of a chair and if walking too far.  I use my crutch only when I kjnow I am going to be standing or walking for more than half an hour.

    Cheers,

When I had my post op check it was one of the questions I asked. I was told when you wake up to reposition the pillows or wake up in the morning with the pillow elsewhere, then is the time to give it up. I think you must be at that stage

I was told to use them at 6 weeks by my surgeon, and I understood that I could do without them at 12 weeks.

I think you can give it up when it feels ok to lie on your side. You use the pillow to prevent dislocation and that is unlikely at 3 months. Happy sleeping 😴

Looks like I am using the pillows a while longer.  I feel the pull and it scares me.  I sure don't want to go backward at this point.  I don't go back to the doctor until March, that will be my 6 mo. check up.  I will ask then.  I just bought the aids to help with socks, etc. and it sure helped.  i didn't get them when I was in the hospital, they offered but I already had a reacher, well it has helped with my attitude a lot since I got them.  So if you don't have them get them!

I think I am going to use the pillow a while longer too. I tried sleeping on my side last night without a pillow and I dont know if it was a coincidence but this morning and most of today the muscles in my bottom (butt?) have been really sore. Maybe it will get better if I persevere without the pillow but I will ask my physio for asvice tomorrow when I go to Hip class.

    Hi Cindy,

warm welcome to our wonderful family of hippies ...

I am still using my body pillow - I was allowed to sleep on my unoperated side while still in the hospital - They showed me how to put the pillow between my legs and turn so the 90 degree rule would not be broken -

I don't know what to tell you - When I lie on my side without pillow I can feel a pull in the hip and think that it might still be too much stress / stretching for the new tissue etc ...

As you can see, we share our personal stories and experiences here - there is support, understanding, compassion and so much love -

Come back when you have a question or concern, or just want to rant ...

    big warm hug

I feel the same thing in my hip,  a little pulling and that is why I was asking when it is okay to go without the pillow.  So me and my pillows will continue to fight each night.  sad
