Sleepiness on Mirtazapine

I have been on 30mg of Mirt for just over a week. The first week was not too bad and I felt a bit groggy first thing every morning and then I was more alert, however the last two days I have been felling groggy and sleepy all day really (I used to feel like this for a week on 15mg before I upped to 30mg). Will it pass or or moving up to 45mg would reduce the feeling of groggines and sleepiness? I feel it is takjng me out of deep depression but I am nowhere near being my old self...

Higher doses are more activating so grogginess should lessen.

I'm also on mirtazapine... the groggyness does wear off after time. I've been on it 8 months now and I still struggle to come round in a morning but once I'm up I'm fine.

Wow, that’s great! I am doing everything not to put weight on this time... I was on Mirt 6 years ago (on 45) and I was feeling extremely hungry and ate what I wanted. I put 2 stone then in 5 months. This time I am extremely careful

and exercising to help to boost my mood and energy levels. How long would you say it took for Mirtazapine to work and improve your mood?

All honesty it took adding venlafaxine to my mirtazapine to notice improvement in my mood... mirtazapine improved my sleep and my appetite.

I saw my GP today and she said she would not add anything or change. Have to stick to 30mg  for longer to see whether it helps.... I am hoping it helps, it did last time bit it took 2 months nearly. Did your Go prescribe you the combo? Or do you live outside of the UK?

Hi, have you increased dose by yourself or under the direction of your doctor? It tends to be feeling more sleepy on the lower dose.  It can take a couple of weeks for things to even out when starting this medication.  I felt better after a couple of days on 15mg and have not had to raise my.  Just go with it and you will feel better soon.  After a month or so I was back to being me.  Hopefully you will be the same as most people on this have good results, Good luck.

I hope this is just a phase feeling groggy and slower mentally. I can’t remember feeling like this on 45mg. I used to be only on 45mg in the past so can’t compare. I have been on Mirt for 3 weeks altogether but when you  increase the dose it probably take some time for the body to adjust.
