Sleeping on Back

Posted , 7 users are following.

Most people find it hard to sleep on their back, and I wanted to share my solution, which has worked for me, although I know it may not help everyone. I purchased a full body u shaped pillow ( sold on Amazon and by other retailers)  and it has been my salvation - I actually get a good nights sleep.  I put the 'u bend' at my head and use the sides to barricade myself into position and stop me rolling on to my side. I have experimented with and without an extra pillow and found that another pillow for my head puts me into a semi reclining position but that is comfortable enough to sleep.  This may not work for everyone, but I hope this will help some fellow hippies, lack of sleep is so miserable!

    Sue,

I'm sure that your solution will help many on this forum.

One other problem associated with sleeping on your back is the pressure of bedclothes on your toes. This can be reduced by placing a cushion between your feet to support the bedclothes.

Sleeping on your back is an important part of the recovery, allowing the new hip to settle in line with the rest of your body as you sleep.

I have seen these pillows and when I have my other hip done I am definitely going to purchase one. They are such a good idea.

Thank you for that tip Sue, are they the same ones that pregnant women use to sleep comfortably? I'll look on Amazon (as the other ones I mentioned might be for sleeping on the side and not back).

Yes, they are the same thing, the total length of the pillow is about 9ft. Hope this helps, regards Sue

    Hi Sue,

I've been reading some reviews on these pillows and quite a lot of them say getting the cover on and off is very diffcult. I would obviously have to keep changing the cover so just asking if you have found this a problem too? There are a lot on Ebay as well that are quite a bit cheaper but it's just the covers I'm a bit worried about. I can't see any that are stretchy either, just plain cotton. Thanks.....

Hi Sarah, the cover that came with my pillow has a zip placed at the top of the U bend. It is like putting a pair of trousers on a scarecrow, if you can imagine this!  It is not as easy as a normal pillow as you have to stuff the 'legs' into the cover, so takes a bit of effort, but it's not too difficult, and definitely worth the effort.

      Best wishes
