Yes, ninet, this is simply a minor anxiety attack.

I'm amazed you've never noticed this "falling" sensation before, as it's a very common phenomenon for all of us. I once read that it's due to the natural drop in blood pressure that comes as we fall into a deeper phase of sleep. It's usually accompanied by a sudden muscle jerk, that wakes us up.

Most people just fall asleep again, but you obviously noticed it for some reason or another last night, and started focusing on it.

Just put this out of your mind. There's nothing wrong at all - you just happened to notice something that happens to all of us from time to time. (In my own case, I'd say about twice a week.) You'll probably be a bit nervous about sleeping for the next few nights, but this will pass. After all, you overcame your longer phase of anxiety, so you'll cope with this one too, won't you?
