sad Sliding hiatus hernia, is there really no cure, I am suffering so badly, it, I eat slowly, no spicy foods, no hot drinks, minimal alcohol (i.e. 6/month) I know I am 70 but I can't go on feeling like this. Is there an operation that relieves this. I take 3 different medications from GP and they say you have to learn to live with it! They work to a minimal degree. I have the cough, sore throut, pain down windpipe etc. I have had a endoscopy.

i can sympathise greatly with you. i am 50yrs old and have suffered reflux and awful pain in my stomach and between my shoulder blades for 7yrs ive had various acid supressing drugs and only recently got a barium meal and been diagnosed with a sliding hiatus hernia. im now taking nexium which helps a bit, i try not to eat spicy :? food, chocolate, citrus drinks or coffee but i still suffer awful pain at times. i have also found out that nexium causes hair loss which to be honest isnt good but i would rather be bald at times than suffer the awful pain. please let me know what drugs have worked for your sliding hiatus hernia. its nice to share it with someone who understands, i think some folk have thought i was a hypochondriac over the years before my diagnosis by my gastronologist..

Hi sorry you have been feeling so unwell. I had an operation for a sliding hiatus hernia in june of this year, it was only a small one, but none the less, extremely painfull, uncontrolable belching and vomitting acid. please please push for the surgery, it's a bit uncomfortable after, but now five months on i promise you wont't look back. I too took omprazole for nine months before i had the surgery, but they didn't do any good. I am 47 years old, so i opted for the surgery

:? Hi.I had a sliding hiatus hernia diagnosed June 08',after numerous tests,of which i was probably thought of as a hypochondriac, but surgeon eventually woke up and smelt the coffee!! Anyway, months of tablets, barium swallow(negative for GORD)I had the Nissens surgery October 08' and had terrible pain post op.If you have opted for surgery,PLEASE do not take it lightly. You will get difficulty swallowing,be on liquid foods forever and a day, lose weight(because of diet),not be able to 'burp',pain in left shoulder for some time and terrible bouts of wind. The surgeon should tell you the side effects, alas,i did not get all of them!!

11-12 weeks post op,i am STILL not on proper foods. No BREAD,PASTA,RED MEAT,POTATOES(mashed!!),CHIPS,JELLY??,YOGHURTS,PASTRIES,et cetera,et cetera.Food \"sticks\" on its way down windpipe to stomach, and the pain from this is excruciating...believe me,and water aggravates the process to get the food down.Absolute nightmare.I know it only happens to 2-5% of UNLUCKY patients, but was not expecting this at all!! I now have to see surgeon again with a possible view to having my stomach dilated, thus resulting in reoccurrence of reflux...30% RISK...can't win!! Good luck !!
