I'm assuming that you all have sliding hiatus hernias. Have you all had tests endoscopy, barium swallow,
Manometry and 24 hour ph impedance test. I'm afraid the hernia will not go away on its own and the only
resolution is an operation. You need to be seeing a gastro consultant because GP's are just not qualified in
this condition and they will only give you pill after pill.
If after discussions and test you decide to go down the surgical route then you need to make sure your
surgeon is a bariatic surgeon or specialises in upper GI.
Surgery is a big step but the operation is not rare in fact it is quite a common procedure.

I can relay the problems I had with my hiatus hernia. For about 3 years I had been to A&E for chest pains
And suspect heart scares loads of tests and checks, I had all my pain behind my left shoulder and central
Chest area loads of different medication. After loads of heart checks my doctor went down the check for hernia route had the camera down 4 times, a barium meal and 24 hr manometers test. When all the results came back it was found I had a hernia and a very poor functioning oesophagus. Went in for my operation in September and have made good recovery. Looking back now at the pain I was suffering I thank god and my surgeon for sorting it. Would say to your get him to refer you to a G I consultant mine was first class Mr Beardsmore at north staffs hospital. Been through all the problems that everyone here mentions but I know for you and others it can and will get better.
Hope this helps and assures you all the best
Mark.
