Small Bowel issues, FODMAP diet help please?

So my ongoing investigations continue into why i'm getting abdominal pain. First they found an ovarian cyst but say its not not as my pain is too high up and finally I agree,

Visited my gp yesterday and I explained that although I felt silly mentioning it i've been feeling sausage like lumps in my tummy and around my naval particularly is very tender. She examined me and had a good old feel - OUCH! Anyway she could feel what I was feeling and although some of it of corse is sorry 'poop' etc but she did say that she can feel lumps in my small bowel and it needs looking into. Probably nothing but still, she could see how much pain I was in.

So, i'm waiting for a scan at my local hosp, I might be lucky and get a cancellation any week now. That's to have a good look at the bowel but also to see if the cyst is still there/has it grown etc.

She has also referred me to a Gastro specialist but thats going to be about 6-8 weeks she thinks.

I can manage the pain but I asked about what I can do to help things along, I've been living on Co-Drydamol and Co-Codamol (when its bad) but i'd like to see if theres something else.

I have a prescription to pick up today, don't know what it is, starts with an A, thats all I saw! she said something stronger but it will help with opening the bowels shall we say, she thinks the painkillers might be bunging me up.

She mentioned the FODMAP diet and although I googled it yesterday I got all tanglked up in high and low and what I should be looking for. I was just wondering if anyone follows it and a good website you could recommend for me to look at?

Thanks in advance,

GI specialist would most likely recommend an endoscopy to check the lumps and symptoms of IBS.

A FODMAP Diet is recommended for IBS,

    The low FODMAP diet

There is a growing body of evidence that the low FODMAP diet is effective in improving symptoms of IBS. FODMAP stands for:

    Fermentable

    Oligo

    Di

    Mono-saccharides

    And

    Polyols

These are a group of short-chain carbohydrates that are not very well absorbed in the gut (small intestine). These carbohydrates are easily fermented and cause more fluid to enter the large bowel, leading to gas, bloating and diarrhoea. Reducing the total amount of these fermentable sugars may improve IBS symptoms. The low FODMAP diet should be tried with the assistance of a dietician.

Hi Mason. My condition is very different from yours but I have issues of inflammation in my small bowel. I'm on the scd diet and my bloating has improved so much. Its very restricted but I do occasionaly have things I shouldn't. The FOPDMAP diet can make symptoms worse but not for everyone. Its not recommended for someone with crohns which affects the small bowel. Scd diet is also for people experiencing problems with the gut and stomach. Its worth having a look.

I think i'm just going to wait to meet with the gastro specialist before I embark on anything new to me.

I don't even know if anything is actually wrong, however im feeling very tender and sore across my navel line today, its really getting me down.
