Small lump on bottom of mouth for over 3 months?

I'm 26, male and smoke around 7 cigarettes a day.

About 3 months ago I noticed a small lump near the bottom of my mouth. It's under the tongue, sort of at the very base of where my bottom teeth are.

I used to notice things like these from time to time but they usually went away after a few days or so. The fact that this hasn't gone after 3 months is worrying me. I've tried to look at it in the mirror but there isn't any sort of discolouration or anything on or around it, it literally just looks like the rest of my mouth but a tiny bit raised. I don't think it's gotten noticeably bigger, but I'd still like to hear some other opinions; my current fear is that it could be mouth cancer or something- what do you think?
