Smegma and cleaninf behind glans of penis
Posted , 3 users are following.
I pulled my foreskin as back possible and I noticed that although it was looking pretty fine up to the glans (i.e. having a natural pink colour) then exactly behind the glans there was a thin white solid strip (of smegma?).
See the image below for having a better idea of it although it is of low resolution.
I am wondering is this good or bad for the hygiene of the penis?
First of all, I know that excess of smegma may lead to yeast infection (which I actually had recently for the first time in my life - I am 27 yo) but I also suppose that the elimination of it may cause equally bad problems.
Secondly, to be honest, I very rarely pull that back my foreskin - I usually pull it up to where my whole glans is showing but not up to where also the behind the glans part is showing as much as possible - and so I do specifically wash the behind the glans part etc.
However, this may not be necessarily bad because if I wash this part then it may be too difficult to dry and as a result I may develop some yeast infection.
What do you think about smegma and cleaning even behind the glans (as much as possible)?

You need to work towards removing ALL of the smegma so that you can wash the entire glans and the inside of the foreskin twice a day. This is the ONLY WAY to establish adequate penile hygiene - you should not be having sex with anyone until you achieve this.
To remove the smegma I would try applying Coconut Oil to it before you go to bed at night, then in the morning take a warm or hot shower - DO NOT try to force the smegma off your penis by using any forceful pressure, and certainly do NOT use a scrubbing brush of any kind ......

Thank you for your reply 😃
To start with just to make clear two things:
This smegma is behind the glans - not even on the glans.
So you really have to pull and hold your foreskin back to see this "secret" compartment.
I had pulled my foreskin that back in the past and if I remember well I had also quite a lot of smegma but I had no problem.
As I have described elsewhere, I am 27yo and despite some imperfections at my penis hygiene (using soap on the glans, not washing the glans that far back, wearing really tight underwear, never pulling the foreskin back except for in the shower) I have never had a problem except for after I had (only for one time) unprotected sex with my girlfriend.
In this respect, I do not know if this smegma is such a problem really but in any case I will try to do something about it.
Now regarding on how to remove it:
I may be missing something but I applied coconut oil (3 times a day) for a couple of days 1 week ago and my penis started to be a bit inflammed actually.
It may be finally irrelevant to the coconut oil but also if you google it some people claim that coconut oil may make some times things worse (because for example it closes the pores?).
I may finally try it again but I am a bit hesitant at the same time.
It may be that I should not use it more than 2 times a day?
Also I may a bit hesitant of washing this area behind the glans because if I really pour water on it then I will have to dry this area really well afterwards because otherwise since it is insulated/closed then with some moisture it may have bacteria (yeast etc) developing in it.
I hope that warm water will work.

Great news!
I cleaned every bit of the smegma (behind the glans) only with warm water today 😃
By the way, not the most pleasant experience to pull your foreskin that back for quite some time.
You may be surprised but I have not done this in my life before (I mean cleaning the area behind my glans - I am 27 yo).
And still as I had said I never had a health issue before until I had for only one time unprotected sex with my girlfriend 2 months ago.
To be honest I almost did not know that this area existed (I am not joking) even if I remember pulling my foreskin that back some times in the distant past (and I had seen I think quite some smegma but nothing happened and I also did not know that this is smegma or what is even smegma - imagine that by the way I am a really educated person in general).
However, at least I learned some things from this experience.
I hope that this will give a definite end (at least for now) to any yeast infection I had recently.

Wow - quite going on then for you. So congratulations your penis now has the opportunity to become hygienic.
So to recap: wash twice daily with your entire glans exposes, try to minimise contact with soap and other forms of body wash such as shower gel as long-term exposure to these is unhealthy to the sensitive skin of the glans and the foreskin. So, warm water and then fully dried afterwards is the way to go.
I would suggest that people have problems with Coconut Oil because their penile skin has regular contact with other things: this can be diverse, such as yeast or bacterial infections being present, people using soap and things like shower gel after their skin has developed an intolerance to these - there can be lots of reasons why something like a Coconut Oil would seem to be ineffective, or even appear to make the situation worse.
The essential basis to go from is that if you think that when we are born the vast majority of us have perfect skin. From that point onwards soap and other things get applied to genital skin - the only way to return genital skin to its natural state is not to apply anything to it and wash it with water. For hydration, sex and masturbation lubes Coconut Oil used in moderation is the best to maintain healthy skin as it is a natural plant extract, and the purest versions of the oil has absolutely nothing else added to it .....

Yes, I hope that things will be really hygienic for me down there and any yeast infection chances will vanish.
Nice to see your suggestion about soaps because this would be my next question.
To be honest I am tempted to at least use an emolient on it because it is difficult to separate from my mind the concepts cleanliness/nice-smell and emolient/soap but I may finally not do it because it may better with warm water only as you say.
I find your suggestions and analysis about coconut oil interesting too.
Finally, as I had told you before, there is rather limited information even on the Internet about penis hygiene and specifically about how to wash your penis (eg behind the glans too) so I think that we should have more and better information available for this.

Sorry to put this in such basic terms, do you want a nice smelling skin or to work towards creating healthy penile skin?
Yes, there is limited information about much related to the genitals that people can benefit from.
So, for example, I was not told about the need to separate the foreskin from the head of the penis when I was a young teenager and the underside of the head of my penis has my foreskin attached still, and I am now 63.
So yes, as you say there is little information out there on penile hygiene, other than of little practical detail when issues such as Balanitis are being discussed.
One major issue that most men get as they age is they are less able to control the bladder and this causes leakages - not very pleasant when you are in a confined space on a hot summer day. However, this can be prevented by giving younger men information on the need to exercise the relevant muscles to control urine flow - this also has positive benefits for sex and masturbation practices.
The common term that is used for this is: Kegel Exercises for Men - there are loads of different exercises for this - but I found a simple squeeze, hold, release and repeat was something I could even do when driving to work.
Yes, I know there there is no manual for being a human being and how we can look after our own immediate health in practical terms - sometimes you do wonder whether the medical professional want people to avoid simple things that can be prevented such as we have discussed, and much more too .......

To answer your question (at the first paragraph).
I am certainly primarily interested in the latter; the former is only a bonus if it happens (and actually my penis is not particulary smelly - but it does not smell soap since I do not use soap any more)
So with regards to this,I understand that you are in general against even emolients on the penis.
I will certainly take this into account.
I will also have in mind what you said about Kegel Exercises for Men.
Regarding medical professionals, I do not think that they have any malicious intent but
medicine itself has not reached yet any firm conclusions in my cases - quite frequently you listen to pretty different suggestions/conclusions from doctors about the same issue
and also they may be simply not that good or not that interested in communicating some things (hence the deficit of detailed penis hygiene information on the Internet).

I have to ask but, did your penis not smell?
