Smelly urine for a number of years, been to doctors, specialists, any ideas?

I'm a male in my 40s. In my late 30s I started to notice my urine had a strong odour. I went to the doctor and had tests for urinary infections etc. I had also had a cytoscopy. I am none the wiser. I can't think what change occurred in that time period although i did move cities.

i now constantly have smelly underwear and the smell lasts in the underwear even when i wash it and I end up with a yellowy stain. Hence I am buying new underwear way more than I should. I can smell myself through my jeans and its getting embarassing as I am sure others can smell it.

Pretty much every forum I read says see your GP but I have and there attitude was live with it.

I'd go on a complete detox if it helped. I am pretty healthy otherwise and drink plenty of fluids.

    I'm assuming your doc tested you for diabetes as well? Is your urine clear and pale? strange smelling urine can be caused by all sorts of food items or supplements. Do you take any medication that isnt from your doctor? body building supplements? eat a lot of onions, cabbage,especially Brussels sprouts, asparagus, etc

    Can you describe the smell? sweet/sour/fishy/musty etc etc?

      Apologies for the delayed response. I thought i'd get an email alert of any responses so have only just come into the site.

      I'd have to check on the diabetes test. Its a valid point as my Dad has it. He only developed it in his 70s though.

      My urine can be different colours and some times it is cloudy - depending on hydration, diet etc. But even when clear and pale it still smells.

      I have a pretty balanced diet. To be honest when i have asparagus my urine smells better than normal!!

      I fund it hard to smell other than being repugnant. Def not sweet or sour. More on the musty side.

    when you moved cities did you change your job?

      No job change. That only happened in the last three years or so. I did arrive single and then met someone who I started a family with. I didn't think my urine smelled when I met her but she seemed to think it did. D
