So close to op...

Hey all, my op is now on Wednesday this week and it's beginning to feel a lot more real.

I have mixed emotions about it all. Scared, apprehensive and full of hope and expectations.

Did anyone feel emotional before their op? Dunno why but I find myself crying at stupid things.

I couldn't even get my boots and socks off the other day and burst into tears. What's happening to me?! 🤔

Anyway sorry bout that, just sitting relaxing and thought I would check in with you all.. Hope your all doing well. X

I had mine after suddenly breaking my hip in a fall. I have always been terrified of any procedure which puts my life in someone else's hands and had a restless night before the surgery. But I wasn't just restless due to pre-op fear. The doctor had explained to me what could happen if I didn't have the surgery and I was terrified not to have it. I was also beating myself up for the stupid fall.

The following morning, I was wheeled down to pre-op, but then walked (limped) to the toilet just before having the general anaesthetic and woke up two hours later all fixed...

11 weeks on now and have an x-ray in the morning. Still have pain all the time, but it's about level 2 or 3 now depending on what I'm doing and the limp is definitely lessening.

You will probably feel emotional in the days after your surgery, too. Post-op blues is real and common. In a couple of weeks you'll be hopping around proudly as you find more and more things you can do on a particular day.

Post Op Blues is a real phenomenon - otherwise known as the emotional roller-coaster ride - and we nearly all seem to get it, I know I am not immune to it.

I'm using 'walking or hiking poles' now instead of walking sticks - different hand-hold position causes less fatigue, and I tend to use them just for balancing not for weight bearing, which helps with banishing the penguin walk.
