So I have been so low that I ate a sandwich after 5 years.

I have been gluten free for 5 years now after having 2 years of all celiac symptoms (Brain fog, malnutrition sickness diarrhoea weight loss..) you name it I had it. After losing nearly 3 stone and feeling like death I went to a specialist and they told me to come off gluten...

Anyways, food for me is a comfort and I miss sandwiches s much. I have been going through a lot so this lead me to eating a whole sandwich. Now after 3 find days I'm in so much pain and feel sick ever since.

Any ideas what I can do to help???

    Hi Sarah

I understand your relationship with food but I’m sure you’ll agree that the benefits you have had from gluten free far out way the reliance on food  as a comfort. It’s the hardest thing to do, changing habits that are ingrained during your whole lifetime and also being backed up still by family & friends who are around you who instill those behaviours repeatedly

While you have gluten in your system your resolve will be low and if anything it can bring your mood even lower making this more difficult - but not impossible. Go back to gluten free and soon you will be feeling clearer and stronger. All of this is from my experience so please do disagree if you want to I’m not telling you what to do just trying to show  that I understand

I have changed and still changing my methods of coping - as with everything it’s an ongoing process. Like any other muscle in your body you need to rectrain your brain to understand that confort eating results in detrimental outcomes not the support and positive route that you need. This can be achieved by repetitive thinking about the choices you make. Some people visualise. Some count to 10 before action I believe and trust in solution focused hypnotherapy as a support

You can do it, find what ‘brain training’ suits you to make those different decision pathways and you will soon look back and realise you don’t have to consciously think about your decisions, you will see that they come naturally and as gluten free decisions that benefit your health

Hey Sarah, I think you will have to ride out the symptoms and I hope you feel better soon. Not found a cure for being glutened I'm afraid. I've recently been diagnosed after suffering for 20 years and know how you feel. I would also say if you love bread and sandwiches you don't have to give them up. I make fresh gluten free bread in a breadmaker which I prefer. I would say try not to feel like you are missing out instead find an alternative. Slice of gluten free cake/cookies gets me through my cravings!

    Hi Sarah,

Do you have Coeliac disease or just gluten/wheat intolerance? If it’s Coeliac disease, please try not to give in to these cravings as in the long run you can cause your body so much harm. (I recommend looking on the Coeliac UK website for up to date information.)

As for what what you are going through right now, as has been already mentioned, you need to ride it out until your symptoms subside, however, drinking plenty of water will help rid your body of toxins and hopefully ‘wash out’ the gluten from your body quicker.

Have you tried Genius gluten free triple seeded bread? I find this is the nearest thing to ‘normal’ bread.
