So needing to hear success stories please.

Hi to anyone who has had anterior, posterior, vaginal repair and hysterectomy......this might sound strange but I desperately need to hear success stories as lately on the forum I am reading about failed ops.     Don't get me wrong, I feel really upset for those poor ladies.

However, I am truly worried and getting stressed out for concerns of a re-prolapse...and in fact am almost expecting it after reading about these ladies.   PLEASE has anyone had total success with just one op?

I am just over 10 weeks and now feel fantastic down below, and the BMs are better than ever in many years ....going easily and soft with no struggle anymore.   I was assured that I had really good stitches inside and that nothing will fall out!

Post op pain has now all gone and I feel good except this expectation of failure.

I would love love to hear good reports.....and how I wish Matron was back on the forum as she was so brilliant at assuring us all.

I had an anterior and posterior repair over 6 years ago and I don't have any problems. If you rest following surgery and do everything asked of you then there's no reason why it shouldn't be a huge success. Research is showing that the repairs are lasting longer than the 10 years (which was the original time predicted before). You have to remember that there are thousands of operations performed every week for prolapse repair and you don't often read success stories, ladies tend to turn to forums such as this one when they need reassurance or are having problems.

Wow - this is good to hear.  I am new to the forums but everybody has been talking about "Matron".  You may have read in the discussions that I live in Spain and the gyny told me if I have surgery I would need it again every 2-3 years.  I am going to get a second opinion as usually the healthy care here is very good.

Your comments are very reassuring for Carole.  :-)

2-3 years?? Good heavens he can't be very confident in his ability to perform this surgery. I remember another lady on this forum from Spain. Am I right in saying your surgeons don't have the title Urogynaecologist?

Regarding a 2nd opinion, I think that's essential. Keep in touch and good luck x

Thanks for your feedback.  I don't believe they are called that in Spain.  We will see what another specialist has to say.  In the case of a bladder prolapse being left to be treated by oestrogen cream (which is what I have been prescribed) do you know if it can lead to other organs such as the bowel also prolapsing?  Many ladies on here seem to need several repairs.  Tricia x

The pelvic floor muscles are connected so if you have a weakness in one part there's always a higher risk of prolapse of another organ but it isn't inevitable and the use of oestrogen cream is an excellent way to help prevent another prolapse, along with pelvic floor exercises. However it's more common for 2 organs to prolapse around the same time so if you have a bladder prolapse now it's unlikely you'll get another one i.e. bowel or uterus x

I had this operation in February and I'm fine.  I felt better immediately after the op as I had been so uncomfortable.  I was told by the women's health physio who I saw in August that I'm doing too much, so putting myself at risk, but I was careful in the early months.  I use oestregen cream and it makes a big difference as I'm in my 60s so long past menopause.  The physio also told me that isolated instances of heavy liifting are OK, it's regular/repeated lifting that's bad.
