So so worried

hello,

in mid August, my gut started making loud noises. I then bleeded when I passed stool but it was a light red and not much at all. I was so worried so I went to my GP who said it was nothing to worry as Im a 20 year old female. But I saw blood on my stools still so I went to another GP who didnt feel any piles but said that was nothing. Then I saw a specialist who wasnt worried AT ALL but prescribed me a flexible sigmoidoscopy so that I cab relax. I have the flexible sigmoidoscopy on Friday but I am so so so afraid of having bowel cancer or rectal cancer. I still sometimes see blood and mucus and my gut is still gurgling a lot but I have no cramps or pain and that is why terrifies me. I also have night sweats (well maybe once every two weeks) but I cant stop thinking about how it might has spread to my liver if it is cancer. I had full blood test in september and everything was normal, including liver functions. I cant live with this anxiety anymore, I am so afraid and I dont know what to do. Thank you for reading.

Try to relax! Three doctors are not worried; this is good news for you. If they were, they would have told you and referred you for urgent tests which they have not. You are only getting a flexible sigmoidoscopy to put your mind at rest. Since your liver results were normal in September, why are you worrying? Believe in your negative tests which are highly accurate. The best thing you can do is to wait for your sigmoidoscopy on Friday; it is not long now, There is no point in worrying about something that hasn't happened or may never happen. The most likely cause for your bleeding is internal haemorrhoids that your doctor couldn't detect or a fissure, both of which can bleed bright red blood.

If I was bleeding before August (the first time I saw blood), do you think my blood test would have shown that I am anemic ? anyway, thank you for your reply, I just have to wait and see now x

If you were anemic,, your blood would have shown it if you were tested for the condition. You talk about being anemic in the present tense, but your blood test was normal. If your doctor had spotted anemia, you would have been told, investigations as to the cause would have been done, and treatment given. This has not happened. Try not to worry about scenarios that have not happened. None of your doctors are worried; they are only giving you a sigmoidoscopy to ease your concerns. Try to relax!

I passed pencil thin stools today and my anxiety is worse than ever... I convinced myself I have bowel cancer even though I really tried to relax but those very thin stools didn't help at all 😦

I passed pencil thin stools once and panicked because no one could diagnose. It turned out to be IBS. worry caused my stools to change. When I stopped worrying, my stools returned to normal and so did my other IBS symptoms. IBS can cause stool changes. Try not to worry. Remember positive things: none of your doctors are worried, no one has mentioned anything serious. You have only a day to go to wait for your scope. Try to relax and don't worry about things that haven't happened and may never happen. Try relaxation therapy. Accept your doctor's reassurances because they are the experts. Speak to your doctor about your anxieties.

thank you. I can't wait to know and I really really hope it is nothing like cancer. I'm so tired of being stressed and sad because of this + the fact that my family is not even in the same country as me.

Even if your family are in a different country, you can still phone them and talk over your worries to help calm you down. Distance is not a problem these days. My dad was in a different country for three weeks recently and I had one or two technical problems. The fact I could text and phone him really helped to solve my worries and calm me down. Try that solution! When previous solutions don't work, try ones you haven't done before.

hello!so I had the flexible sigmoidoscopy and there was no polyps. Well I didnt see the whole colon but in my rectum the doctor saw many canker sores!!! I was so surprised as I thought it was only in the mouth and as I have so many canker sores all the time but in my mouth! So he took biopsies and I will have the results in two weeks. I wonder what is the cause of these ulcers though! I feel so relieved. Thank you for your replies 😃

Your biopsy results will tell you the cause of your ulcers; Calmly wait and see what comes up. At least your fears have not been realized.

Just relax... do not worry too much. Its most likely internal hemorrhoid. I have been having this for more than 30 years now. It comes and goes. Naturally seeing blood worries anyone. Wait till your sigmoidoscopy, until then stop thinking over it too much.

Hi gab , im glad to hear everything was good and normal . Blood test would have showed up abnormalities if you had cancer anywhere . You may have a case of mild gastritis inwhich a bland diet would clear your issues up in a couple of weeks . Are you gassy or bloated any ?

Don't try to read through internet and come to your own conclusions. Blood in stools does not always mean cancer. The best thing is that your doctors said you don't need to worry. However you should take it as alert from your body, since 20 years is young age to get gastritis problems. It can mean that your lifestyle, food habits, sleep routine, stress are not supporting your stomach. So that means you now need to focus on changing your routine.

    hi everyone,

thank you for your replies. I have acid reflux but I'm pretty sure it's because of stress as I moved in another country far from my family for studies... I dont think I am bloated, I just have the loud gurgling a lot. And each time I see blood, it's bright red. I just can't wait to know what is wrong but at the same time very afraid it is the worst. Anyway, thank you to all x

Worrying and anxiety can tear a stomach up , making nosies , churning even make you feel sick .. Foods can contribute blood in your stool , actually its pretty normal at times especially if you are or have been constipated .
