Hi everyone I'm sorry you will be getting fed up with my stupid panic attacks!!! This probably sounds really stupid to you all but I'm having spinal block and sedation for my hip replacement on the 17th I'm petrified if I'm too heavily sedated I will forget to breath !!!! I'm so sorry if you think I'm being stupid I've just never had anything like this before xx thank you for kindness and patience with me lol xxx

If I get the chance I think I'll opt for a spinal block and a sedative rather than a general. I find the idea of a general much more scarey.

The idea if having a needle in your spine sounds a bit scary, but it hurt less than having blood drawn. The next thing you know after that, is when you wake up in recovery =)
As mentioned, you don't lose any breathing with spinal - you're just taking a nap with no feeling from your waist down.
It's still fine to get your freak out on tho. I thought I'd be cool and calm, but I didnt sleep a wink the night before my surgery.. so really, nothing to apologize over. Just let the staff know how you feel, and they will do a wonderful job at reassuring you. It's a very traumatic experience for you, but it's what they do every day =)
