I am 5 weeks post TKR, I am also so tired all the time. I try not to take

Pain medication but then I hurt so much I can't think.

Movement is great 125 and I can flatten my leg completely.

I was not prepared for the pain and the physical limits I am having.

I have to go back to work soon, this will really be a challenge.

I did heal slides and ankle pumps every hour when I came home from

      Hospital.

Started PT at home started quad tightening, pushing down while fighting.

This helps with getting leg straight.

      Lots of icing.

It's normal Pam, I m 7/1/2 weeks post op and still feel tired. It's gets better as the weeks progress. I know after 4-6 weeks you might get a little down and feel depressed it's all normal make sure you get to physical therapy and work in the bend etc but even tho you get down it will get better.

Hi I'm on week 7 of having a knee replacement. I'm extremely tired I'm ready for a nap two hours after waking up. I came across this page around 3:00 am this morning cause I was frustrated cause I can't sleep. Glad I seen it, I now know that I'm not going crazy. Can't wait until I can do things with out having to rest every half hour. Not much pain mostly just swelling. Good luck to everyone one day soon we will be back to old selves.

      Hi Biola!

      Oh, yes! Naps!

Early on I would actually fall asleep in the middle of a sentence according to my family!😁

Remind yourself that our bodies HEAL when we SLEEP! We have gone through a great deal of trauma with this surgery! Our bodies are exhausted trying to stay awake, eat, drink, exercise in Physical Therapy and at home, AND attempt to HEAL!

      The result?

      The body says, "ENOUGH!"

      We get tired, and SLEEP!

      The body says, " Ahhhhhhh!"😒😴

It will be easier to keep awake once more healing happens. In the meanwhile, enjoy the Sleep Club! You have LOTS of company!

      Happy healing!🙌😁😊🙌

A bit discouraged, going on seven days since knee replacement, still not much sleep at night and not much activity during day.  doing some stretches and walking with walker, but progress seems slow.  The leg is three times larger than the other one and the compression socks feel like they are cutting off my circulation on swolleen leg.  Wearing these a month, just trying to get by.  63 years old, had hip replaced, not bad, knee isnt going as smoothly, still other knee to go in three months.  What helps you guys stay upbeat?   I hate to rely so much on family.  I need to stay busy with something.  I dont think I am a whiner just not very patient with myself this time around.   I read alot, tv is just there to keep company.   Do you folks find it difficult a this stage to do any normal activities?  Thanks all

Seriously? Seven days out? This recovery is big and slow. As has been said before, this healing is a marathon - not a sprint. Have you started physical therapy yet? Don't be discouraged take it day by day. Some will be better than others. I'm nine and a half months out from second knee KR. I still get discouraged and my husband reminds me that I'm better than last month. So hang in there. Ice, elevate, excercise, rest and take advantage of other's help. It's your turn.

Hi there. Timothy here, Ontario Canada age 60. I am 3 1/2 weeks in and I so hear what your saying. I couldn't do the compression socks as they promoted swelling. My leg is still a bit swollen after 3 1/2 weeks but not near as bad as it was. What keeps me upbeat is my wife telling to stay positive and not whine LOL. I went into this surgery very fit and it knocked my totally on my ass. This forum just seems to echo what I am going thru and knowing this is everything. smile

I'm just coming up to 14 months TKR on my left knee and 11 months on TKR on my right knee. I can well remember and my heart

goes out to with those sleepless pain filled nights. You WILL get through it. Just be kind to yourself and patient. I have no pain now, just occasional

soreness and numbness when I try to do too much. Can manage a three mile walk with ease and did

40 lengths in the pool this morning. By the way I'm coming up 78 so no spring chicken. God bless dear we're rooting for you. ?

So glad to have found this forum. I am 9 weeks out from bilateral TKR and I'm really struggling with fatigue. I've returned to work and have gradually built up to working 4-5 hours a day. My job requires a lot of standing and walking, and when I come home, it seems that all I can do is sit or lie down. Sometimes I can manage to cook dinner. I finished physical therapy this week, and I'm really pleased with how flexible my knees are and that I am able to get around most of the time without a cane. But feeling exhausted is just no fun. I do have trouble sleeping, mostly because of pain. Truly hoping to have more energy soon.

      Hi Susan!

Sounds like you are doing amazingly well for being post op for just nine weeks AND having had BOTH KNEES done at one time!!🙌😁😊🙌

Sleep is often hard to come by for quite awhile. There is SO MUCH healing taking place in the body!

When you must go back to work it has got to be really challenging! I STILL find myself dropping off to sleep for several minutes sitting up even after just drinking an espresso! Longer amounts of sleep is more challenging because pain and/ or stiffness sets in.

Sleep when you can. Try to elevate the legs as much as possible during the day. Compression stockings (thigh high).help a lot.

      Keep up the great work!😁

Hi Pam. I am 9 weeks into recovery and nights are still bad for me

I cannot get comfortable . I sleep in small increments and am lucky for I get 5 hours sleep over the course of the night. With hours up watching TV for a bit begging my body to just go to sleep. I often cry out of tired frustration but I take heart knowing full this too will eventually pass.

So glad I got to read that this is normal and others struggle through this as well.

Hi Dawn, I'm 5 weeks post op and reading these messages today is a life saver. I've been getting quite down through lack of sleep, pain, stiffness etc you know what I Mean! It makes it so much worse when everyone says "you look so good!" I just want to yell "well actually I feel b.... awful... and bad tempered!"so really good to know it's normal and will improve. Thanks to everyone for sharing - I wish my surgeon had told me honestly how it would be - he said I would manage on panadol after a couple of weeks!
