SOFA RAISERS

Posted , 12 users are following.

Hi,

I still haven't had a date for surgery yet but I will need sofa raisers as my sofa is quite low to sit on. It's a 3 seater and a really heavy one so can  any of you recommend raisers that will support such a sofa? I can get someone to put whatever under but it definitely has to be a lot higher up than it is.

Thank you.

where are you? I am in UK and was asked about height of my sofa and if needed they would provide wooden blocks. I guess solid wood blocks on each corner would work well. Hood luck for your op

    Hi Sarah

I bought from Amazon a booster cushion raiser. It was ideal as I moved it around different seats. I took it going to other peoples houses too.It was really firm and didnt sag. invaluable. Its still in use as my husband likes to sit on the floor for some reason and he loves it. cats love it as well. It looks ok too. Grey velvety material. Goid luck with your surgery.

      Hi osprey,

I thought your idea was excellent (I live in America) and just ordered a "post hip surgery cushion" off Amazon. My THR is scheduled for October 11.

      Thanks for the tip! Betty

As Sandra says I was asked about chair heights, bed height and loo heights and someone came in and fitted everything. I am in UK.

Hi there - in the absence of raisers, i managed by putting the back cushions of another sofa (could use from an easy chair i guesd) on top of seat.

    Hi

Your local mobility shop has these but when the occupational therapists comes to assess you home they should be able to help if not they will provide a chair for you to sit in.

    Good luck

If you are in U.K and have joint School before surgery. The OT will assess your needs. You usually have to fill out a form with the height of everything you will be using.

I made my own raiser from blocks of wood for my recliner.  I also used an office chair so that I could join the family at the table for meals, and a vegetable trolley for storing necessary items.  Pictures of all these are on my website - the address is in my personal info here ...

I ordered a sofa sized length of firm upholstery foam off the internet, 4 inch thick. It came in a few days and I put it under the original seat cushions. 🌻

Hi Sarah the OT will arrange for you to get risers for the sofa, they got them sent out to me and the men that brought them put them under my sofa as my sofa was really heavy.  They were plastic and the sofa basically just sat on the top of them.
