Solution to thigh pain---hopefully

I posted on here a while ago that after 12 weeks and recovering well that I started having nasty outer thigh pain in my op leg. I had gradually increased my exercising to doing an hours power walking, 40lengths swimming and 14 km on the static bike. I was  concerned that it was the prosthetic stem tip loosening because I had pushed the exercise too far or that I had an infection somewhere in there.

Well I had an x-Ray and there was no problem with the stem. I've had the CPR,FBC & ESR tests and there is no infection and no bursitis. YIPPEE!

But why do I still have the pain?

It turns out that the problem is that while I've been exercising my inner thigh muscles are not strong enough and it means that the outer thigh is not strong enough for the work I was doing-------search me I don't get it either. My physio has given me some other exercises to do which hurt but he tells me it will get easier. One of the exercises is the standard one of lifting the op leg out sideways except with weights on my ankle.

I'm off to Jamaica in a couple of weeks and just hope it works cos I don't fancy jigging to Bob Marley with this pain.

    Nice one Colin,

Have a great time in Jamaica

Good that you have some answers, Colin. I don't understand, though, why exercises that hurt would be recommended. I understand some hurting after vigorous exerce, as new muscle is being made. But hurting while you are exercising? Sounds like muscle has been damaged, if it hurts most the time. If it were me, I'd be resting, icing, elevating, and eventually when the pain stops, then I'd gradually introduce exercising again. Hope you are feeling good enough to dance in Jamaica!

What about the pain being caused by bursitis?  That is pretty common and it causes pain.  I hope the new exercises help and I admire you for being so diligent.  Hope your vacation goes well and do a jig for me!  Love Bob Marley!

      Thanks Dawn

reckon one of Marley's songs could be the anthem for us hippies

      "Every things gonna be alright"

Forgot to say I've been told I don't have bursitis - got my doubts though

I think that is what I have, hurts like bruising right on the side.

Is it like a dead leg ? That's how mine feels but unlike a dead leg bruising it won't go away. Had it for 5 weeks now.

Not really a dead leg, but I have numbness on that side and it also feels like deep brusing, it feels sore, I use a heating pad for some relief.

After the exercises the physio said I should use a heat pad or hot water bottle on the area but not an ice pack surprisingly.

It feels good, really helps. I see my surgeon in May on my 1 year anniversary, I would love to be pain free by then....
