Currently working in Pacific Micronesia and come down with some sort of bug. Started with mild flu and comes in waves with a strong dizzy/fainting spell, followed by fever and sweating and nausea with hypertension and ftigue. My BP is normally 120-130 on 80 but can rise to 190 on 120 during these bouts. Blood tests have shown cholesterol normal, Sugar normal, liver/kidney funtion normal. Normally healthy at 66, BMI around 25. Been going on and off for about five weeks. Doctors and medical service here not able to offer solution. Any advice would be helpful.

It would appear that HBP is merely a symptom and that really you need to look at the underlying cause. You are probably in a region where your body probably does not have any natural defence against certain diseases.

It could be caused by any number of diseases, very difficult to give advice when not familiar with local conditions. Doctors should really be treating the bug that you have, HBP should then settle. You could of course take BP taablets in the mean time until this is rectified.

Thanks, yes, I was just looking at the possible options in bugs. They gave BP tablets to take.

Hi Steve - a simple question but have the medics ruled out malaria.  I am certain that they should have looked at this but you do have all the symptoms.  Do let us know how you get on.
