Solved mystery?

I am the one who can't get down on her prednisone because my SED rate remains high no matter what I try. Turns out there may be another reason for the inflammation: I have a problem on my lung (so far the doctor calls it a lung nodule). She had treated me for pneumonia, but the thing didn't go away. So now I go in for a cat scan. I've been short of breath for a very long time, worse now, with pain that I thought was PMR, maybe it is? I hope it isn't too horrible whatever I have.

hi Debbie....just thought I'd let you know that a couple of years ago, I too had a tiny nodule on my lung (too small to even biopsy). the doctor's fairly sure that it's a result of pneumonia I had many years ago. I've had to have it re-checked a few times since (cat scan), but so far, no changes......Wfewww!! I certainly don't need any other problems than what I'm already dealing with.

my point is, don't "freak out"! It very well may turn out to be similar to my situation.

sending you best wishes, good thoughts, and best of luck!

I have very high SED rates. Some doctors just say that is normal for me, but recently when they went up to over 100 they decided to check. They did do a lung xray but I think it was OK. It is really nice that they think they have found the problem for you.

Is your PMR pain okay at the moment? We go by symptoms not numbers because, as you've found out, our inflammatory markers can be raised for many non-PMR reasons. I do hope your current problem is resolved quickly. As you know pred reduces our immunity to things, that's what it's designed to do so so the autoimmune issues clear up, but it does make us vulnerable to infections of various kinds. Have you received the vaccinations which can help you resist other strains of pneumonia?

When is your CAT scan? Good luck!

I do hope it turns out well Debbie - it does confirm what I've suspected for a long time.

All the best - and do let us know how you get on.

Thanks all for your support! My scan is next Thursday. The dr wrote today the nodule was small and probably not the cause of my back pain, that I had a lot of degeneration in lower back. On we go...

It's easy to blame PMR for everything. Good that your doctor knows better and has acted promptly. Best wishes.
