Hi all,

I'm on Sertraline 50 mg and am on day 15. I'm nausea, throwing up, not sleeping well (despite of my psychiatrist have tried to give me both mirtzapin 30 mg and Seroquel 100 mg... I still wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep anymore) and my anxiety is over the roof.

First I was on 50 mg for 12 days and I think the side effects (if they are? I think it is difficult to distinct between the anxiety symptoms and side effects) went down some. Then I went up to 100 mg and I did nothing else but throw up... went down to 50 mg again 3 days ago but am still SO nausea, not eating, just vomiting.

Any advice?

I had severe side effects till week 8 on 50mg post which they became manageable so you should give 50mg time to level out in your system.

After that you can increase depending on how you feel at 2-3 week interval.

My personal experience is that it takes a while to work on the right dosage depending on the condition you're taking for.

    Feel better.

Severe side effects up to week 8, oh no! I can't bear the thought of being so nausea and throwing up 6 more weeks :-(

My disorder is Fibromyalgia and it's  symptons got amplified for 8 weeks - severe muscle stiffness, fatigue so much that i was bedridden, heightened anxiety and agitation and insomnia with brain fog, that doesn't mean you will have nausea for 8 weeks. You should feel better in a week or so and i know it's a panic situation but trust me thing get better, better than ever before.

Sorry you’re feeling so rough. How long were you on 100mg? 12 days is long enough on 50mg to get over the worst of the side effects, but probably not long enough to get into your system properly for it not to cause extra problems when you up your dose, if that makes sense. How long is it since you dropped back down to 50mg? It is rough at the beginning, but it will get better. I’ve just upped from 100mg to 150mg and I took my time and did 2 weeks at 125mg before upping to 150mg. I still had side effects but it was more bearable. Hang in there xx

      Dear Sarah,

I was on 100 mg for 3 days and today is the second day I'm down to 50 mg again.

      Any chance things stabilizes?

It’s early days for you, so try and be patient, easier said than done I know! I’ve been very up and down the last few months, but I’m starting to feel a little more stable. The worst of the side effects should subside for you very soon. Hang in there xx

I'm on day 26 at 50mg. Taking sertraline for anxiety and depression.

First two weeks were grim, diarrhea, nausea, interrupted sleep, tiredness, anxiety and depression worsened on some days although I did have one very good day during the second week and a good half a day in the first week.

Third week the nausea abated and a got a few good nights' sleep, the diarrhea improved a bit. Still tired and lacking energy most of the time. But a friend has noticed a difference in my mood and the edge does seem to have been taken off my depression and anxiety by about 15%.

I saw my GP a couple of days ago, she says my experiences are par for the course and to stay with 50mg for another month to see how I go. I am happy with this, I don't want more side effects over Christmas and want to stay at 50mg to see if there are longer term improvements on this dose, before considering increasing it.

I'm reading a lot of posts on the forum and it seems wiser, unless you really have to increase, to stay at a steady dose for at least a couple of months to allow your body to get used to the drug. Have to say, I'm looking forward to big improvements, can't wait to feel good again but I think patience is needed.

      Hi Joss.

No no more nausea for you? It's really cribbling. I can't do anything else than stay home in bed. I get nothing to eat.

Makes sense that you will wait to up your dose to after Christmas. It's rough.

      All my strength to you!
