Someone tell me when this gets better!

I'm currently going through my primary outbreak of genital herpes and it's completely debilitating. About a week and a half ago I received oral sex from a guy and a few days later my gums started bleeding and my labia started swelling and forming small bumps. I thought it was thrush so I took a thrush pessary treatment but by that night I knew it wasn't. I have blisters inside my mouth including on my gums, lips, roof of my mouth and down my throat. My breath is horrendous and every time I swallow it's like tiny razor blades. My poor vagina is worse. My labia is covered in thick, yellow ulcers. They were weeping a smelly goo up until last night and now they appear to be cracked and bleeding. I am in so much pain, it's like nothing I've ever experienced. I cannot sit, walk or use the toilet. Trying to pee makes me do this pathetic screech, even when i pour water over myself or use a shower head at the same time. I think I am on day 7 since the very first symptom appeared. Someone please tell me how much longer this lasts, as I can't go through with it anymore. Once the scabs form, which I'm hoping will be soon, does the pain go away a bit? Will I be able to walk again? Which is the worst stage of these initial outbreaks?

I haven't been able to see a doctor as I'm a tourist and they all seem to want me to register. The sexual health clinic is closed today. I've been lying flat on my back in a hostel room doing absolutely nothing for three days, this will be the fourth but I have to leave tomorrow. So no medication, all I've been able to do is take ibuprofen and pour salt water over the ulcers. Someone give me some damn hope!

Hi lauren sorry to hear you are having such a horrid time of it. You should have really got treatment for it as soon as symptons started this wouldnt have cleared the problem up but it does stop the symptons from getting worse. I started to feel better after about 7 days of my symptons starting but then i fot treatment from my doctor as within 2 days of symptons starting. Try salt baths and bathing the area with salt water i found this helped and but vaseline on the areas especially down below it eases things when you need to wee. Thankfully i didnt get them in my mouth that must be terrible again try gargleing with antiseptic mouthwash or salt water hope this helps and that you feel better soon xxx

Do not sure antiseptiouth wash, your mouth will be on fire. Using Epsom salt to gargle and bath in is the best option. You really should have sought treatment and I think you should go to the emergency room where they can give you some pain meds and valtrex until you can get to your destination to see a doctor. I know how bad it is. When I got oral herpes I was 22 and on vacation and it made me sick, I had ulcers all over my tongue and mouth. I had this one the side of a silver dollar on the inside of my cheek and it hurt w my teeth resting against it. Take 800mlgs of ibuprofen or advil every 4hrs. I also used ambsole on my ulcers in my mouth to numb them for a bit. Try drinking tea w lots of honey in it, swishing and swallowing, the honey may help w soothing and coating the ulcers.

It dies get better, I promise, but I don't know how long it takes to get better w out meds. Hang in there sweetie, it'll be OK.

The same day I posted this I ended up going to the local hospital for treatment. It musy have been bad because the ER doctor took one look at my vagina and made an "ooooh" face of sympathy. She applied topical anaesthetic so I could give a urine sample, and gave me codeine and 800mg aciclovir to take home as well as more topical anaesthetic for when I need to pee. Because of the sores in my mouth I haven't been able to eat much over the past week and the drugs have been very harsh on my stomach. I threw up several times yesterday and most of it was bright red blood from my throat blisters. Pretty traumatic to see! Bit of a catch 22 - need the anti-virals so the blisters in my mouth go down and I can eat, but need to eat before I can take the anti-virals. Trust me to get a double herpes infection.

I feel for you sweetie, I really do. It is actiawnot common to get it in your throat, your immune system must be very worn down. The pills don't make me nauseous, however, I got nauseous easily and randomly going through my first ob. When you're close to getting over your ob, the pills probably will not make you feel sick, but I take valtrex, so maybe that's the difference. Are you traveling back home today?

No Im not going home for another month but at least I'm staying with friends now so I have a bit of space, privacy and peace to heal. I have been sleeping face-down so that the stuff in my mouth drains out rather than into the back of my throat which has been making me feel pretty sick. I woke up before with something half-hanging out of my mouth, flicked on the light and I was covered in blood! It was some sort of bloody slug looking thing, almost like a period clot but coming out of my throat. I coughed it up and cleaned all the blood away, feel much better now. I guess that was all the crap from inside the blisters that has been congealing at the back of my throat. How disgusting.
