Something bad in the water....

I have no clue where to post this. I have no clue what's going on and that's why I'm here. 4 months ago my boyfriend took me swimming in a somewhat local stream. We ended up fleeing the water due to being itchy... I ended up having a leech all the way imbedded in my belly button. I had surgery in my belly button a year or so ago and I felt the leech tear into the scar tissue. By the time we got it off, I was just pouring out blood. The day after, I was very sick with the runs. I was dizzy to the point I could not walk on my own and kept falling. I also ended up getting swimmers itch ontop of all of these problems. Within a week, I had a low grade fever, was dropping weight, fatigued, having the chills, and hot flashes. Mostly, I felt like I was being punched in the belly button where the leech attached. The pain was to the extent where I went to urgent care. They thought it was a vagina infection and looked. I had lots of discharge internally and had both a yeast and bacteria infection. They sent me on my way with antibiotics. I felt okay the first few days, but then the meds stopped working. I have been on about 8 antibiotics from that point and none have been able to get rid of the infection. The only medicine that touches it is monistat, and that only helps me manage the symptoms for a few days. I am at a loss and so are my doctors. My symptoms include, low grade fever, discharge, bloody discharge, joint pain (I am 19 and sometimes can't flex my knee fully anymore), headaches, chills, hot flashes of terrible sweating, weight loss, fatigue, and inability to have sex due to pain. I have been checked for every std under the sun.

You could try taking large amounts of activated charcoal... It probably wouldn't be a cure, but maybe it would help your body get rid of the toxins.
It really sounds like you have some sort of parasite or bacterial infection. If I may ask, where do you live? In certain countries the rivers are more polluted than others.
I hope you find healing soon 🙏

Hi, luckily I live in Alaska so there are not as many parasites/pollution. Unluckily, I live in Alaska so there is literally no research as to what's in the water.

This sounds like you may have been bitten by a diseased carrying tick and have Lyme disease. This mimics a lot of your symptoms. There is a parasite called Giardia that can cause so many of your symptoms and that are found in creeks. Ask your doctor to really check you for this. I had a friend that contracted this and it took some time before her doctor found the culprit. Don't swim in creeks as there are so many parasites infested in the water. Lots of luck and have a blessed day.

I am curious, how was your friend diagnosed? Should I be looking into finding an infectious disease specialist? I don't want to get political, but I would like to say Alaska does not have ticks and usually the creeks are fine. But with global warming, we have had animal species migrating north and with that, all kinds of ticks and who knows potentially what else. It is something the local health care system and vets are struggling to deal with.

My friend had gone down south to vacation and went swimming in a creek. Within a short time she experienced fever, chills and severe fatigue. Her doctor did all kinds of testing. He asked had she recently been out of state. She said Tennessee. Her doctor then ordered 3 separate stools from her so he could check for Giardia. It takes 3 separate test to be able to check for the parasite. These were then tested in the laboratory under a microscope for the parasite. He also ordered an Antigen Test. She tested 90% for Giardia. What have you got to lose? For your sake I hope that is what it is. Then you can start treatment and get on with your life. God Bless.
