Something in my vagina

Hello all,

I had surgery 8 weeks ago. I had hysterectomy and rectocele repair. My problem is I feel like something is always in my vagina. And it feels worse in the evening. I told my doctor at 6 weeks but she said everything is healed and she released me. Does anyone else feel this? Could it be scar tissue???  Is this normal? Ugh! I know many women that had their bladders repaired but not really anyone to talk to about rectocele repair.

Plus, I still have pain after sitting.

Help??? I appreciate your input. 😊

Hi Jaquetta, it’s totally normal at this stage. You are nowhere near healed yet. It’s the bulge where the rectocele was repaired, it’s still very swollen.

I really wish Drs would be more realistic about repairs and how long it can take to fully heal. Give it a year, yes a year, and even then be very careful, no lifting anything heavy, and try not to stand or sit for a long time. The important inner strong stitches that hold everything together are still healing at eight weeks. The reason it feels worse at night is because your body is protesting about what you have done during the day. My new gynae told me, at one year, it was a very hard surgery to get over, and a very slow recovery. He wasn’t wrong.

      Laura,

Thank you for answering my question.  I have been so worried about it. And, I guess because my doctor said everything was healed up at 6 weeks, I keep wondering why I still feel pitiful at times.  It helps so much hearing from others that have went through this. Again, thanks for your answer. If you think of anything else that I might need to know, I’d appreciate hearing from you.

      Hugs!!! 😊??

      Laura,

May I also ask, how long ago did you have surgery and was it a rectocele?

      Thank you😊

It’s two years since I had rectocele repair. It was awful for the first few weeks, really hard to sit down, and driving was a nightmare. It took me months to feel anywhere near right, but I have spinal problems and as a result of being in the position they put you in for the op, have a damaged pudendal nerve now, so still have pain, that I’m trying to deal with.

The stuck tampon feeling can last for a while, don’t worry. Most people who come on here are worried something is wrong because they think they should feel better faster, it takes time, like Welshgirl says, it’s a hard road to travel. Any questions feel free.😊

      Laura,

I’m so sorry you still have pain.  Prayers.

Yes, I feel like I have a tampon stuck in there.  Ugh!  I’ll keep hanging in there.

      Thank you. 😊

I could have written this post myself!!

Six and a half weeks after anterior repair and almost six months after rectocele and this are my symptom exactly. So sore -much  better in morning and much worse at night.

Have to get walk in during morning hours since later it’s too painful. Has anyone tried Estrace or estrogen based cream? I have vagifem can I use now at this stage - say seven weeks?

Coconut oil helps but not enough. Keep thinking I have thrush. Any advice?

    Thank you .

I went back on to vagifem at 6 week's so I'm sure it will be fine.check with your surgeon though hun.

I am going to try estriol cream next time as it's a weaker oestrogen and much better for you. It's sure an awful journey hun. Our surgeons don't tell us half!!xx

      Miriam,

I haven’t used any thing. My doctor offered to give me a prescription for something, but I have so much cancer in my family, I didn’t know what to do. I wish I could help you out. I haven’t even had sex, yet. 😳

Oh Jaquetta, I so know what you mean! I had rectocele repair along with bladder,  urethra,  and hernia repair. I do believe; however, that the rectocele repair was the worst! I am 3 months post op and only in the past two weeks maybe stopped carrying my pillow with me. I still have to have a pillow if the chair has no cushion. My doctor released me at one month with restrictions but no instructions has to how the swelling comes back if you stand too long or  how the vagina still fieels full at times! I had the worst time with my tailbone hurting for over 6 weeks so think your experience is pretty common to others who have gone before you! My advice to anyone is just buckle your seatbelt because it is a roller coaster ride. Honestly, I still have swelling and that full feeling when I stand too long and sit down carefully when I take a seat. Again, just so thankful for this forum!! Hang in there Jaquetta, you still have quite a ride ahead of you but you , too, will make it if you do as little as possible for as long as possible! Prayers for you and all of us on the roller coaster!!

      Brenda,

Thank you for all the advice/comfort.

I’ve had so many questions about what is going on.  My bottom has hurt  a lot after I sit for a little while. But, it hurt after I got the rectocele before the surgery too. I hope it heals before long.

I think you are through the worst part now. Thank God. I appreciate your in put. Thank you! And if you think of anything else I need to know, please text me back. Prayers 😊

    Hi dear one,

I completely understand how you feel.  I have had the same surgery, with anterior and posterior repair, TVH, and it has been six months.  Sitting in one place for too long still causes me discomfort and I too feel like there is something "in there".  I have been to my Dr who tells me that what I feel is scar tissue, however I have some doubts about all of that.  It feels different and like I can feel something almost like a q-tip close to the entrance. (a fleshy piece of skin)  I am committed to waiting longer and hoping things settle a little more.  My Dr said the only way to correct the scar tissue is another surgery.  No thanks.  Best to you!

      Lyn,

I was wondering if it might be scar tissue that I’m feeling.

      🙏??

Scar tisdu e doesn't form till at least 12 wks.

      It's swelling from the insion.

It's way to early to feel back to normal hun. Give yourself at least 8 wks before you feel on the mend.

Nerves were cut and need time to heal. They take ages in afraid.

Plenty of rest, movicol for soft bowels and be kind to yourself.xx
