Hey guys and gurls,

I'm 4 weeks post op...I was dusting my coffee table yesterday on my knees and when i got up even though i was using my arms to get up my operated leg the muscle felt like my thigh muscle popped or rubbed - can't really describe it - followed by pain. I thought i dislocated my new hip but the pain is in my thigh.

i can walk on it but i can't us it to go up and down steps now - any ideas?

kind regards,

Dan

oh heck, would get this checked out Dan, If you lay down is your operated leg still at the right angle? sounds like somethings not right if you cant get upstairs, hope its not dislocated!

    Hi

You really shouldn't be doing anything like that yet you still have restrictions for a min of 6 weeks trust me the dislocation pain is intense and seriously not worth polishing a table.

You need to rest, your muscles are under serious strain. Walking is the limit, you do damage now and it could set you back months.

    Good luck

Ive only been able to get down and pull my self up onto my knees only last week, but it was 7 wks after my operation. You really have a lot of tendons and a large muscle that you have to use when you pick yourself up from a kneeling position. would not have been kneeling at all so soon after your operation. I do hope you have not compromised your healing.

    Hi Dan,

just a thought. The same thing happened to me about 6 weeks post op. I was climbing from the platform into a railway carriage when my thigh muscle went. The discomfort lasted for a week or so, then faded away. My thinking was that after the operation the thigh muscles are disturbed and it take time for them to snap back into their right position. I hope you will also find that the pain will fade and you can finish the dusting.

OMG I wouldnt even attempt getting on my knees! surely you were told what the restrictions are? I am very careful and do very little around the house, if i want to clean anything low i use a long handled feather duster! please go and have it checked Dan I do hope you havent done any damage????

    Hi Daniel

I share the OMG feeling others have expressed. I expect you've just pulled a muscle - but don't risk kneeling yet, please. Long-handled dusters etc.

I asked my physio, at my final 4-week session with her, how one should kneel and get up. She said "if you are asking that question you shouldn't be thinking about doing it". So I left it for a while, and then searched on the Web. It's down using the operated side and up using the un-operated side (like stairs).

I tried at just over 7 weeks and found it very hard to get up; I felt stuck, and wobbled. Now - at between 9 and 10 weeks - I can do it now, but it's still not that easy to get up (getting down is easy). I reckon I'm doing very well (walking a lot, doing lots of exercises, just drove into town for the first time to shop without any walking aids) - but I'm not confident with getting up from kneeling yet.

So I echo others - please take care!

    Daniel,

kneeling at four weeks, you were brave, I had twelve weeks precautions and I was very careful during the twelve weeks as I was worried about dislocation. Maybe having a little patient and not trying to rush recovery too soon is the way to go. It was a big operation and is still healing inside. Take care, no bending twisting etc.

thanks for all the responses. I'll take it easy - to be honest i just didn't expect it to happen so easy. I'll see how it goes in the next week or so and if no improvement i'll speak to my specialist.

    take care,

    Dan
