My husband rolled a towel and put it behind my ankles just lifting my heels high enough to take the pressure off. Hope this workd for you.

Hi Shirley, not sure of much about it, but are the covers on your bed tucked in? If so, perhaps your heels are being pressed down? My only other thought is dryness of the skin on your heels?

    Hi Shirley,

I hear you heel pain can keep us from sleeping. I have had 3 bionic hips. Each time I used small sofa side or accent small  pillows about 18x18x2" to place under my knees and feet to preveny my heels from touching the bed. A regular pillow was to soft the harde sofa side pillows worked perfectly. Any linen store will care accent or side sofa pillows in various sizes, thickness and firmness. Also medical supply stores on line have special ankle ring cushions that wrap around the whole ankle. Under diabetics to help. Good luck

Hi Shirley, my daughter had the same problem in fact one heel started to show signs of a pressure sore starting. The hospital gave use some inflatable protectors that were like a half boot that protected the heels but Em didn't get on with them as they made her feet feel hot. We used a pillow under her calf/knee just high enough to keep her heels off the bed. We also applied a barrier cream to the heel everyday.

If warm enough slide down the bed until the heels hang off the end,

    smileworked for me

I suffered that too cos hospital physio told me to lie flat. Then read in here and put small soft pillows under heel. And bingo no more sore heels. At 7 weeks I am still mostly on back but now that movement is back in op leg I find I am moving around the bed so no more sore bum or heels. I think that soreness in butt and heeks comes from lying in one solid piece and IT gets better. Hang on in there Shirley.

    H Shirley,

I was having sore heels as well. Found faux sheepskin heel protectors on Amazon. (also sold on Amazon UK) There are many choices of styles and prices beginning at about $14 US.  .Most are little booties with velcro.  I actually bought a piece of sheepskin that attached to the foot rest of my lift chair. I also have been using a foam pad made for bed sores for heel protection.  Seems to be working.  Happy to give you more specific info about foam when hubby gets up.  I' m without glasses and stuck in the den where if I go up the stairs to find the name of the foam I can't go back down!

    Hope this is helpful.

    Hi Shirley

borry to hear about your heels - I had the same problem but found that if I put an ordinary pillow under my calves/ankles then it kept my heels off the bed. Also  had a pillow to my unoperated side as my shoulders hurt lying on my back, so every night was a bit of a pillow-wrestling event.  As I also woke several times in the night, it would happen on a number of occasions!  Just as well I was confined to the guest room!  I'm 12 weeks post-op now and don't have to rearrange pillows anymore - can't remember when it stopped though!

All the best for a better night tonight.

This Is what I did. Iturned the pillow length wise then let the heals dangle free from the end. That way they don't touch the pillow or bed. And air can circulate around the feet. That takes off any pressure from the heals.Hope you feel better soon

Put a fat pillow under your knees and a thinner one under your feet. You can either rest your feet on the bottom pillow or position your feet on the front of it and your heels should not touch the bed. It's also quite comfy on your back having your knees bent a bit. I also propped my back up on loads of pillows! If you don't like the weight of the quilt on your toes (It affected my big toe nails and they stopped growing and the nail bed became sore- 3 months on and they still haven't grown!) you can get foot cradles to lift the quilt off your feet. Before I got one I used a plastic storage box!

When I was working, ITU, we would put natural sheepskin under our patients and turn them every 2hrs but you could combine a sheepskin rug under lower calf/heal + a small pillow under calf/heal and something at the end of the bed to keep all the covers/bedding from putting any pressure on your feet (I did all 3). Remember to do your ankle pumps often to help reduce swelling. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Dot.

    Hi Shirley,

i bought little sheepskin booties from Amazon and they were fab. I had to get my hubby to put them on for me but I could manage to get them off myself. Also I slept quite a bit in an electric recliner and would shuffle myself down until my heels hung over the edge. I also found a rolled up towel under my ankles helped to keep my feet off the bed on the few occasions I did actually sleep in my bed.

Hope all of this advice helps you a little 😊

Yes. Same problem. Solved by small folded towels under ankles. Perfect.

Thanks for all the advise guys - tried the pillow thing last time, but personally didn' t find it that comfy. Got hubby to slaver heel balm on them when I went to bed last night, and put a big fluffy bath towel over the bottom of my bed to put my feet on (haven't got anything sheepskin) - seemed to work, had a good night and heels not sore this morning.

I had the same folloeing a THR last month. I bought some 'gel heel socks' from Amazon as I knew I would be uncomfortable with big bulky things or pillows or rolled up towels. The socks have been fab and in still using them.

You're welcome. I got some blue and white ones on Amazon for £2.97 plus postage and they came really quickly. Worth every penny
