Sore teeth and gums, side effect?

Hello all, I'm new here. Started on fluoxetine 20mg 6th July for my depression and last week i hit a real bad low point after an initial first good two weeks on it where I felt nothing. Since then my back teeth are really hurting almost like my gums are too soft so my teeth sink, feel wobbly and lose when I'm chewing?! Anyone else suffering with this side effect also I'm breaking out into hot flashes constantly and I'm so up and down x

It's definitely normal to feel up and down for the first couple months if treatment. I did not have the teeth thing but I'm sure it could be a side effect and will disappear when settled. Keep us posted.

Good to read that it takes a couple of months to begin to feel less anxious and depressed , when I started Fluoxetine the first couple of weeks were just great , then I seemed to slide back into this awful anxiety and depression , I'm taking 20 mg at present and also have diazepam 2mg for the panic attacks , I don't take them very often only if I'm going out into a crowd , or s strange place , I do hope that fluoxetine is going to work as I was on venlafaxine previously for two months and felt suicidal .

Thanks John, my teeth has settled today & are are not sore at all. So strange. It could have been from clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth in my sleep a lot recently which again has only started since taking this medication.

To me it sounds like you possibly clenched your teeth during sleep or could even be doing it without notice. Do your jaw joints feel sore? Are you brushing too hard and/or using too stiff of a bristle toothbrush? Do you typically chew only on one side? I can guide you if you would like but I need those questions answered. I have 20 years experience in the dental industry and have TMJ issues myself.

Hi Stacy, I have been clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth in my sleep since taking flu, husband confirmed I have been unsettled during sleep and very restless legs. This has never been an issue for me so put it down to side effects which my doctor confirmed yesterday can happen on this medication. So probably nothing to do with how I'm brushing etc. Seems to have settled down now anyway x

Yep i started on flu three days before you and first two weeks it hurt to chew anuthing. I think it was from the excessive grinding my jaw was doing whilst I slept and even during my anxiety attacks.

This week not had sore teeth just all the other nasty symptoms still

Good to hear I'm not alone with the grinding and clenching Vampybear 🙋🏻 My teeth and jaw have settled slightly but occasionally feel tense and I'll automatically do it without thinking but like you I am suffering with other side effects as well now x
