Sore/tender skin and sensitized nerves..

Hey all... Two concerns Im having at the moment..

I'm noticing that the skin on my labia minora towards the entrance to the vagina is easily irritated and sore to the point in burns and feels raw. It is just slightly reddened on both sides but not blistering red. From what I can see I have no LS in this area of the labia. The LS presented itself higher up towards the clitoris and around the urethra. I'm wondering whether the vulva skin is just more sensitive and easily irritated because of what's going on? Im using oils like coconut and olive oil to keep the area moisturised as it gets easily dry which further adds to the irritation.

The next concern is that my clitoris feels super sensitive and (blushing as I type this) achieving an orgasm is extremely easy/comes on quickly. It's like the nerves are super sensitized. It's actually worrying me. Is something going on? I've read about people having their clitoris' buried and unable to achieve orgasm. I'm wondering if that's the next phase and to expect my clitoris to disappear over time?

Dani, I went through that period right around menopause before my clitoris was buried. In fact I wasn't sexually active at the time, but I'd be standing at the photocopier or walking through a mall and be totally aroused. I did quite a lot of very soggy self-pleasuring that year and the next year I noticed my clitoris was half hooded-over. (I bet the bodily fluids were almost as bad as urine for LS). I hadn't been diagnosed with LS and foolishly decided what was needed was much more vigorous soapy scrubbing, worst thing I could have done.

You may well have a flare-up right there. LS flared skin becomes 'sticky' and that's when fusing can happen quite quickly. The friction of sexual intercourse stirs up yeast in me. I believe that then triggers an LS flare. If I were you I'd get a tube of the slowest Canestan cream and just use a tiny bit topically where the lips are sore.

Just don't have intercourse when you're already having uncomfortable symptoms.

Morrell your msg made me smile, I sometimes feel that sense of arousal at random times, almost like a tingling sensation in the clitoris. What did the skin look like during this time? Was it white?

A week ago I noticed that stickiness and I was wondering what that was about! The stickiness seems to have improved since I began using an estrogen ointment.

Honestly though I can barely look at myself down there, it makes me cringe. The overall complexion of the skin is pale and a little patchy. Hoping the use of estrogen and oil can improve the overall appearance of the skin so that it looks healthier!

Hi Dani, I can sympathise, I find the only cream that does not sting or burn is the John sons baby 3 in 1 baby nappy cream with zinc, after 3 years of suffering and only finding the zinc cream rescently I no longer can get sexually aroused as the damage has been done. I am hoping now the zinc is helping the skin to heal things may get  back to normal in the future. I also drink bottled water as I have found drinking our water with flouride in irritates it more.

Anita, fluoridated water is the worse thing for us! I try and and drink water without fluoride in it. In my grocery store there's a brand of water that is completely free of fluoride and other nasties.

Will give the zinc a go. I think it may help the perineum and anal area.

Dani, I had a similar problem not so long ago with my clitoris, except rather than it feeling super sensitized in a sexual way, it felt much like a bruise feels when you catch it accidentally, I deduced from this that it was LS! and proceeded to apply a tiny bit of Clob to my clitoris morning and night, taking time to carefully rub it in, and making sure I got under the hood of the clitoris, which is important I think.  I  did this for about five days or so and it seemed to do the trick.  I am sure you have nothing to worry about.

Guppy I hope you're right. I'm only 25 and can't imagine losing sensation in my clitoris any time soon. I'm pretty scared! Does the steroid stop progression or is it luck of the draw?

Dermovate ointment applied diligently as Dr. Goldstein describes should stop the progression. But all bets are off if ypou keep having high-friction sex while flared up. When I was your age my husband at the time was what we would now call a sex addict. If he'd had his way we'd have been at it three times a day, every day. We'd have a big fight after I refused (painful) sex and barely speak for two weeks, when my skin had a chance to recover and then the cycle began again. Too bad I didn't stay with my first husband, who only wanted sex about once every three weeks.

dani..The steroid cream stopped the pain I was feeling in its tracks and it has not returned, but quite honestly everyone is different, and so I really hope it works that way for you too. Just make sure you look at yourself down below every day, with a good magnified mirror.

I certainly didn't understand the arousal at the time; your experience sounds very familiar.  Not long after, the clitoris 'disappeared'.  Furthermore, the whole area started to fuse really quickly after that.

Would I have known what was going on at the time ....and would I have started with taking baking soda baths then .....  would it have become as bad as it did later? Hard to tell, but perhaps worth the effort.

Another related experience: Intercourse felt afterward as if someone had punched me in the crotch.

Good you found out that you have LS at this stage already.  Try you darnest to prevent and stop the process.  Cover with oil or anything that prevents the area from sticking together.

I use coconut oil, baking soda rinses and baths, emu oil at times.  And of course glob on maintenance level.  And I cut out sugar, alcohol, gluten, most dairy, soya.

    Wishing you WELL.

Thanks for the advice Hanny. I find the oil helps a lot. Do you know if the steroids stop LS progressing or is it a combination of things like applying oils/taking baking soda baths etc.

At present I believe that stopping or even reversing the fusing is a combination of things.  When having a flare up the glob will take that down for me.  Somehow the baking soda made my fusions slowly but surely disappear.  Emu oil and coconut oil brought some much needed lubricant and some healing.  Hormone replacement may play a part as well.

And I believe that cutting out certain food items made a difference as well.  Especially convinced when I discovered that eating cheese triggered my LS.

Then there is the dilation I do, am not sure it 'heals' anything. But it certainly keeps the labia separated and the vagina open.

A not so short answer to your question - my coping with LS.  It's not a cure, though I have been dreaming of finding a simple solution to 'scare away' this disease; something that is not so time consuming perhaps.

Hanny, I read another post you wrote to a young woman like me and mentioned that a change in estrogen levels may play a part. I do believe that hormones do play a huge role in LS. Ever since I was diagnosed with LS my menstrual cycle has gone haywire (not ovulating and bleeding is very light) Maybe I'm estrogen deficient or there is another hormonal imbalance going on which has triggered the LS to appear/be symptomatic.

My biopsy report showed vulva atrophy. Does anyone know whether LS is the cause of the atrophy or is the atrophy hormonal related? Just a little confused.

One other thing that is concerning me - does LS affect inside and up the urethra? i know it doesn't affect the vagina but what about inside the urethra and bladder? If so what is the treatment? It's not I can put steroids up there..

Danny, the research just hasn't formed any conclusive causes of LS. If your cycle is messed up, you'd need to see a gynaecologist even if you didn't have LS. There is some thought that hormones play a part.

We have had one or two women on here who've had LS attack the urethral meatus and go up the urethra. If your LS is progressing this seriously, then you're really playing with fire by having intercourse. The friction will irritate it and it will spread. I know it's a rotten thing to realize, but I've got 40 years of experience, including multiple periods of celibacy and several marriages. Sex makes it worse and once it's in remission, we want to have sex. Etcetera.

I've used the word 'may', since I cannot claim that we know with any certainty what causes LS.  It's still a searching for answers.

Is a low estrogen level a trigger for LS?  I'm on hormone replacement and think it makes a difference.  Since my hysterectomy and also because of adrenal gland malfunction I know for sure that I'm 'low on hormones'.  You probably know that this can be tested. Perhaps an idea to have this done?

Be careful to put steroids 'inside'.  LS is not known to affect inside the vagina.  Mine came out unharmed. "The vagina is in tact" my gyno told me with some rejoicing in his voice. (Did he not expect this?)  The uretra also was not affected. ( During the time before the dilation procedure there were all the possibilities for infection.  Was I just lucky?)

There are others on this site who do/did have problems with the uretra. I'm wondering whether it is a consequence of what LS is doing to the skin.  So many illnesses have other health issues that over time happen 'as a result of'.  Just wondering.

A while ago we talked about other illnesses that people have next to LS.  Many happened to also have thyroid problems, including me.  Thyroid issues can play havoc with your periods, I know that much.  May also be worth looking into.

Hope the above helps you in some way.

My Doctor, a vulva specialist, told me to quit using bleach and fabric softner, and to use washing product that is no perfumes or additives at all.    She also agrees with the things we are all doing, diet changes, using coconut oil, aloe vera etc. I just wanted you to know about the clothes washing methods that might help.
