Sore throat and menopause

Hi. I had a really bad cold six weeks ago, along with a sore throat on one side. the snotty cold went and left me with sinus pain in left side of face. that passed but I'm still left with this sore throat. tried a week of antibiotics but didn't clear. GP has said that as there is no obvious infection, I need to get it checked by ENT and has put me on two week pathway to check for cancer - eek! as this all seems from a cold, I wasn't too worried but now I'm going out of my mind. I'm sure that I've read that there is a connection between oestrogen and sore throats. Has anyone else experienced this. x

Hi! Yes I suffer with long periods of getting a sore throat and and a dry mouth. Sometimes my throat is sore on one side. A friend recommended gently massaging the sides of my throat and it actually does help to relax and soothe it. Sleep helps too. Mine is worse without enough sleep.

    It is common amongst peri/meno.

I had blood tests to rule out throat cancer etc.

I hope that puts your mind at rest a bit.

    Take care xx

Thanks for replying. It is reassuring to know that a long lasting sore throat doesn't necessarily been it's something nasty. I had a MRI four weeks ago and have my follow up ENT appointment next week. Have assumed that if they had found anything worrying, they would have called me back before now. I will try massaging but I am beginning to suspect that it is caused by allergies, which can get worse during peri. x

I'm glad you've had your scan and yes it could be allergies. I was tested around 9 years ago and was told I'm intolerant to several native trees (UK). I think it gets worse each year. March to May are the worst months. I can only take antihistamines at night as even the non drowsy ones make me sleepy. 🙄

Peri/meno plays havoc with your histamine levels.

I hope you find something to help your symptoms. Maybe ENT can help. x
