Sore Throat Comes Back After Antibiotics- Strep Test Negative

I woke up two weeks ago with severe throat pain. I could barely swallow and when I did it hurt very badly. I used my phone's flashlight and looked at my throat/tonsils and noticed white spots, so I figured it was strep and went to the doctor.
I had a fever but no cough (no symptoms other than the sore throat). They did a rapid strep test and it was negative, though with the "exudate" on my throat and tonsils (my tonsils are also humongous) the doctor prescribed 10 days of amoxicillin to be safe and sent in a throat culture.
I started taking the antibiotics and began feeling better about 36 hours later.
Three days after I began the antibiotics they called and said the results of the culture were negative. They told me to stop taking the antibiotics and I did.
Two days after I stopped the antibiotics my sore throat came back and I noticed the same white spots on my throat (they had disappeared when I was on the antibiotics). I started taking the antibiotics again and the symptoms went away.
I finished the 10 days of antibiotics this past Friday. This morning, I woke up with a sore throat again and it does look like there are white spots beginning to form again.
I'm a bit at a loss of what to do. Both strep tests were negative, but the antibiotics seem to be helping. Does anyone else have any idea of what this could be?
For what it's worth, I'm a 30 year old woman, no kids, haven't knowingly been exposed to anyone that's sick recently. My tonsils are always huge (constantly get comments from doctors but no one has recommended getting them out).
I plan on going back to urgent care after work tonight, but I'm a bit concerned about actually figuring out what this is.

i cant tell you what is causing it .. but i can tell you i just had a similar experience . and also had another just like yours last year. had a sore throat, fever, body aches, chills.. everything. i went to the ER .. they looked in my throat and said strep. prescribed me sulfamethoxazole . went back the next day to get a swab. they sent it off and i started the antibiotics. 2 days later and i started to feel better.. but doc called and said results were negative . but because this happened to me before i stayed on them anyway.. went into ER .. AGAIN.. and was told to just stay on them incase. i had to stop them after 7 days due to an awful rash . they told me it was probably viral and i was given antibiotics for no reason. last year same thing.. but when i trued stopping the antibiotics the spots and symptoms came back .. so i finished the course and was fine (but strep swab was negative) very confusing and stressful!! i know how u feel!
