Sore throat for two months
Posted , 4 users are following.
I have been having sore throat on the right side. Went to several ENT specialists. Did an endoscopy which the doctors diagnosis was LPRD and chronic granular pharyngitis. Throat swab came normal. Even after taking Meds for 1 months there is no difference. Sometimes I get a weird taste in the mouth as well.
3 months back I gave unprotected oral sex. So I did some std tests. As i was not very well versed in what tests to do I did not do hsv 1 & 2 Igg and Igm tests. Are these tests same as chlamydia igg and igm tests.
Now my main worry is whether the condition is because of herpes or gonorrhea. I did a urine test for gonorrhea and it was non reactive. Please advice. I am losing my peace over this.

Thank you so much for replying. I have pretty much no idea which side I sleep on. My ear doesn't hurt. It's mainly the right side.

Do you mind if I ask which meds they put you on? Did they give you 2 different types? One for LPRD and the other for granular pharyngitis? I believe my husband has granular pharyngitis. (Haven't gotten into the Dr. yet, long wait) He was given medicine for LPRD as well because he has the same symptoms, sore, and lump in the throat but it did not help him. Just curious is the medicine they gave you was different for GP because that may be what he has.
Thanks!

What Meds is your husband taking?

Much the same as you.
He took esomeprazole and an antihistamine as well. I guess I was looking for the treatment part for chronic granular pharyngitis, but it looks like there isn't really one. I am seeing "throat paints" that helps to rid of bacteria that may help. I also read up on iodine rubbing it on the neck. (If we get it and try it and it helps I will let you know.) A lot of people online are saying that is working for them so I think we may try it out since it can be bought over the counter and we have a while till we can get in and see the Dr. From what I have read (about people using iodine and it working) it seems like no one's condition was quite as bad as his though... He's had this since May... So we are grasping at straws.
I forgot to mention this before but they even went as far as to do an upper GI on him after doing 2 endoscopies. Still nothing out of the ordinary as far as possible damage from this "silent acid reflux" that the doctors think he has. They were looking for possible damage which they thought would be the answer all end all but found none.

Most of the docs ENT specialists and General Medicine were saying that this is due to some allergy. So I am trying a trial and error on different stuffs now. And I am trying to take foods which can help minimise the damage caused by LPRD. I read everywhere it takes a lot of time to heal up if it is chronic pharyngitis.
Let me know if you guys come up with any positive news.

Well, someone canceled last minute their appointment and they called us and asked if we would like it so he went today to a different ENT to get a second opinion. This doctor had all the information and pictures from all his other doctors and he came to the conclusion that it is acid reflux much the same as the first ENT he went to did... He told the new Dr that that's what the first thought too and they put him on medicine and it didn't help at all. Well, this Dr thinks that is still it and is putting him on a different type of medication. Tired of this whole situation going in circles... I know if I am he is miserable.
So he will be starting this new medication today. I actually don't know what it is off hand because we are both at work and I wasn't at his apt. but i will let you know what it is if it works.

Hi. I still waiting for my appointment with the ENT specialist..
But I did several tests 2 months after I gave and received unprotected oral sex. The tests were for syphillis, chlamydia, hiv, gonorrhea, hepatitis b, HCV...all the results were negative.but what worried me was the sore throat that didn't just go away. But like you I don't feel that bad now. I can take deep breaths without a pain in the central chest area. I was on several antibiotics courses...i think some might have worked...i don't know. But i am planning to do a throat swab n culture for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphillis, hsv 2 just to give myself a peace of mind.
I will let you know if any updates come up
