Sore throat for weeks, how do I proceed?

Hey all,

I've dealt with some chronic gasto issues for almost 2 years now (abdominal pain, belching) but I recently started getting issues with my throat. Starting in November, starting with the moment I woke up, I felt an undeniable burning and soreness from the back of my throat. I feel it getting worse throughout the day and it feels like there is a huge buildup of mucus and saliva in my throat that makes it difficult to swallow sometimes.

Because of this, I find myself manually swallowing a lot because of the buildup. I don't know if this makes it even more powerful because I sure do notice the pain more there. I also still belch a lot so I'm not sure if that's affecting things.

I went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago and he thought it might be some globus since he saw me swallowing a lot. He looked at my throat and didn't seem to see anything. I've also taken Omeprazole for a couple of weeks about a month ago and it didn't seem to relieve anything.

What is this? I can't stand this sore throat, it makes it hard to talk sometimes. For reference I'm a 26 year old male and otherwise healthy (except for the gastro issues). Do I need to get an endoscopy? HELP!

That belching is giving you gastric/acid reflux which is travelling up to your throat and making it sore and also increasing the mucus in your throat. You need to find out which foods give you the belching and cut them down or out altogether.

Some common culprits are beer, carbonated drinks, high fat foods, even a milky diet. You can also get this problem from eating too fast and not taking enough time to chew. Rushed meals ,poor diet, being very overweight.

Do look at your diet and in the mean time you can also try taking antacids like Gaviscon when you feel the burning. You can take antacids with Ranitidine. Some people find Ranitidine better than Omeprazole. You can buy antacids and Ranitidine OTC, but dont take Omeprazole with them.

You have tried Omeprazole already and it didn't give you any benefits so i won't recommend any medicines but yes, please try Gargling warm water with salt added in it, every morning and if you find any relief from pain or symptoms then repeat this remedy. If it doesn't work, then i would recommend you to visit an ENT specialist such as Dr. David Greene Arizona in your location.
