Sore throat near Adams Apple

Been having a sharp pain in the ADAMS apple for 3 years now, especially when head is bent down when sewing or reading. Pain lessens when lying flat. SCANS and xrays revealed a small bone spur at C5-6 on flat side of spine.Was told as i have no problems eating and possible danger to brain in an operation, i have to put up with it. was given paracetamol, acupuncture was ineffective, and there is no gastrointestinal cause.pain gets worse in evening when sat watching tv.any pain relief ideas?
