Sore throat one side several weeks scared

Hello all. I have been scouring the Internet for help but it’s not really helping; I am hoping you may be able to. Thank you in advance.

I went to the docs a while ago about some lumps I’ve had for ages under my ear and I was sent for an ultrasound because my doctor wanted to play it safe and they turned out to be cysts. However, the ultrasound guy (non NHS) scanned the rest of my neck and found a 3cm node in cervical region. He didn’t seem that concerned (and I did feel a bit ill at the time) and the report didn’t get back to my GP for ten days. He did say that we need to get to the bottom of it, but that was that. My GP got the results as I had presented with some night sweats (not extreme) at the same time as these lumps. She referred me to heamotlogy as none urgent because she said there was no blood supply to the nodes. I actually read the very brief report on the doctors screen and don’t recall it saying anything I understood about ‘lack of blood supply’.

At this stage I’m continued Lymphoma, however, I can’t find the actual lump - could it be deep inside of me? The only thing I can feel that is swollen is one of two lumps under my neck (about two inches back from my chin). The one side is enlarged and quite firm; the other is soft.

Around the same time, I had an illness (sore throat and ear ache on one side) that the doctor treated with antibiotics. It seemed to get better only to come back about a week later. I am now stuck with a sore throat on one side. It feels dry and doesn’t stop me eating and drinking but it won’t go away. Both tonsils seem large, but the one on the sore side is bigger. I am sure I can see something white/yellow on the back of the tonsil but I’m too scared to get a mirror in there just in case there is a massive growth of some kind. I’m 31, drink occasionally (and heavily) and smoked through my teen years and most of my twenties. It’s been a few years since I smoked a fag - I used to smoke between 10-15 a day. I’m eating as much as usual (maybe a little more) but my weight is pretty much the same (I may have even lost a couple of pounds). Is this likely to be cancer? If not, what else could cause such a long term one sided sore throat?
