Sore throat, wheezing, lack of sleep.

Hi, thought I'd post on here to see if anyone has had anything similar.

About 5 months ago I was really ill, sore throat etc.

I was waking up early hours of the morning with what felt like a swollen throat. I was wheezing really badly and it would take a good couple of hours for my throat to feel normal again.

I went to my local doctors and they checked the back of my throat, they thought it was a bacterial infection and prescribed a weeks course of anti-biotics. After the weeks course I was still exactly the same as before but due to lack of money I had a lot of overtime at my work place and went on as normal. I was back at the doctors last Friday and they said they now think it's acid reflux and prescribed me 28 days of tablets for it, I'm now 6 days into the tablets and I'm still exactly the same as I was.

My symptoms are : wheezing, swollen throat, sore throat all day 24/7, feels like there's a lump in my throat that just won't go no matter how much I cough.

I don't know if it helps but last month i was in A&E with an allergic reaction and all my face swole up and I had a big rash all around my neck.

Any helps appreciated as I just want to feel normal again. Thanks, Ross.

    3 points:

    1) What did A&E do? Take a scan/pictures of your lungs/oesophagus? If not, why not?

    2) Have you recently eaten/somehow taken in something really different that led to the apparent allergic reaction before you went to A&E? (Remember the demise of the late, great Hugh Gaitskell!!!).

     3) Have you recently been somewhere peculiarly foreign??

Thanks for the reply, A&E gave me a shot of steroids and anti-histamines for the allergic reaction I had and my local doctors just looked down my throat and said it looks like a bacterial infection, then acid reflux. A&E didn't do any scans or anything, they just took samples of my blood.

I hadn't eaten anything different to what I normally eat when I had the allergic reaction and my throat was bad before I had the allergic reaction so I don't think it has anything to do with that, but thought I'd add that in there just incase.

I haven't been anywhere foreign as I haven't been on holiday since I was 17 (I'm 22 now) and I've been working at the same place for over a year now.

Where do you work and what do you work as?

Blood tests only give you results for what you ask, not information for what you don't ask about.

I work at a local sainsburys store as a regular employee, till work and putting stock out etc. A&E didn't ask me anything to do with blood tests and to be honest I was more worried about the fact my face was 3x the size than to ask about my throat.

Your symptoms could be a variation of Hay fever or Dustmite or an allergy to something else such as a cat. It often causes an itchy throat and the wheezing related asthma. You can buy antihistamine tablets over the counter, but if your wheezing continues you must get it sorted out as it could lead to a severe asthma attack. Should go back to GP.

Hi Ross, it does sound like an allergic reaction to something.  Have you talked to the Medical team at Sainsburys?

Does your condition improve at all when you have time off work, like a holiday?  I know, for example, that on a couple of occasions, when I went into one of our Tesco Extras,  I had to leave immediately because of something connected with the air conditioning.  I also know that I am allergic to formaldehyde amongst other things.

Talk to Sainsburys and see what they say.  Good luck.

    Hi RosseID

Did you ever get to the bottom of your problem.  Interested as I have had same problem for over a year, though with a great deal more symptoms and fibromylagia.  Have had a great deal of stress and anxiety and Dr is putting it down to that, though I am still not convinced.

Maybe you need an allergy test and white blood cell count may involve sinuses or sinusitis

I have similar symptoms. I only get this way when I'm in my house I'm renting. I just had it tested for mold and there is high levels of mold. This can possibly be the reason. If you feel better away from your home and it gets worse at night, you might want to get a mold test done. Good luck and hope you feel better.
