sore throat when taking Azathioprine

I have been taking Azathioprine for crohns for some time and have been lucky not to have had any side effects. For a while I have had a sore throat but not needed any medication. When I read the possible side effects on websites they mention sore throats. Any one else experience this, if so have you spoken to GP or consultant. Thanks for reading my query.

    Hi

i did a six week course on azathioprine. I did not have a sore throat but I got one infection after another.  I was told that my resistance to germs etc was low because of the azathioprine.  Please go to the doctors, mine was so kind and also all the other staff in the surgery  could not have been more understanding. I once went 3 times in one day.  I'm o.k. Now and not been to the surgery for ages.  Please call them. You can always take them a cake when you are better.

    cheers, chris

Hi.  I was on Azathioprine for 4 years.  They do lower your immune system somewhat and you do have to take care.  For three of the years I suffered chest infection and cough in the winter which I could not shift without antibiotics for a week.  Do not let anything get a hold on you, always go to the doctors and get it sorted and it soon passes.  You have enough to contend with with Crohns so don't suffer with anything else.  Get help quickly.  Your Doctor should understand that Azathioprine lowers your resistance and should understand.  Good luck.
