Hi.  Do any of you experience this?  I've been diagnosed with AV and am going back in a few weeks for initial treatment options.

How do you mean ,is it in back of your legs as well as posterior ,if so look at Levator ani syndrome and another name for it is Cyclist syndrome ,This goes from the Gyne right through to posterior .Go see if that describes it .

No, it's not that. My vaginal skin is so sore and it goes all the way back to the skin on My interior bum. I've just finished flagyl for bacterial vaginosis, but the AV symptoms are still there. Thanks for letting me know about the levitator ani. I hadn't heard of it before.

      Hi louisville

After BV and metronizadole anti biotics this can then trigger thrush, as it kills good bacteria, after i was treated for BV ( was actually CV) i was told by Gyno to use thrush treatment for 3 nights after anti biotics.

Also i have dryness and use ovestin estriol vaginal ovules for internal dryness and ovestin cream on outer bits especially vag entrance etc, it plumps thinning skin and it is very very good, its estriol the kindest estrogen just treats the AV and doesnt enter blood stream

You are the first woman to mention taking Flagyl other than myself. As this is a UK site maybe they have another name for it(?)Years ago before the atrophy I had an infection but my gyno (at the time) would not prescribe it as she said it was not indicated. Instead I suffered for years taking every other medication possible, none of which worked and saw other specialists as well. My male primary doctor finally prescribed it for me and I was cured. (One reason why I think female doctors are not necessarily the answer.) Once the AV began I found there always to be greater sensitivity. Be careful what soap you use and avoid tight pants. Coconut oil may help.

Flagyl is a brand name metronizadole ..

when i was treated for the BV i was given Clindamycin antibiotics they were vaginal ovules, used one every night for 3 nights followed by Laurimic ovules for thrush one every night for 3 nights.

i repeated this one month later and never had BV again, that was my only time, it was picked up on a smear by Gyno, i had no ususal symptoms, or the odour .. Just milky watery discharge .. Its said BV on my result but in the comments it was actually CV.

We are given a copy of our results here ..

That was an awful lot to read, but other than sitz baths I didn't see Flagyl recommended as treatment. That's what worked for me and I had the problem more than once. The last time I had the problem (at the start of menopause) I had a new doctor who gave me multiple tests, pills and creams over a 5 byear span, but would not prescribe the Flagyl which I specifically asked for. Ultimately, nothing worked other than Flagyl which another doc prescribed. He said the body has bacteria in it that haven't been discovered yet and if Flagyl worked in the past there was no reason not to take it again. I was forever grateful. BTW the gyno who couldn't figure it out was also very pro HRT & wasn't happy that I was not. Coincidentally, she has since passed away from breast cancer. Always wondered about that.

Yes, I also have soreness to Anus as well as Vagina.  I use a very thin layer of Metanium Cream in Anal area which is for babies nappy rash.  Not sure if is is available in U.S.A. though.  It, along with Cetraban moisturiser helps me greatly.

Hi. Thanks for the thrush tip. I'll grab some cream tonight and use it. I'm thinking the flagyl did cause a yeast flair up. I'll keep you posted. I'm looking forward to my follow up appointment on the April 1st, so I can get the estrogen cream started. I'll keep you posted. I had hysterectomy in 2012, due to cancer. However, I had the slowest growing, lowest stage. Except for having cancer scare, the hysterectomy was the best thing ever....until now. smile

I'll look for something similar. Thanks for letting me know. I needed to know if it was part of the same problem. I hope you're feeling better

Thanks Beverley. Metronidazole is the generic name. It did help but I'm not cured. My new Gynecologist said he's sure it AV and he did a culture because he said there's probably another infection also. That's how the BV showed up. Thanks

Hey Gwen.  I found a product here called Balneol.  It's a anal and vaginal cleansing lotion.  My bum so sore and tender.  You put the lotion on the toilet paper when you wipe and it gently cleanses the area.  Is helping.  Kind of expensive,  but helping to lessen soreness and is really cleansing.

To be honest I have good days and bad days.  I think that is just how it is going to be.  Like you I had a Hysterectomy 1 year ago and that is when all this trouble started although my Hysterectomy was due to prolapse and not cancer.  Some days I wonder if it would have been better just to put up with the problems needing a Hysterectomy caused.
