Sores on heels of feet.

Does anyone have sores on their feet?  I remember somewhere on this forum of someone saying it is quite common while taking Predn.

I keep having these sores on the back of my heels, which clear up after a few weeks, only to break out again, they are quite painfull and annoying.   It is almost summer here in Oz, so I am only wearing sandals which I have been doing for quite awhile, so not caused from my shoes.

thanks,

Hi Track, I don't have any sores like that, I also live in Australia.

The more I am on this site and read what Pred can do, the more I understand that everyone gets different side effects with it. It really is a horrid drug, but nessesarry for PMR and GCA ... I hope you get well soon.

    Cheers

This sounds like a language problem! Lots of us say we have sore feet - that means they are painful, having sores on your feet is a bit different. Skin is often dry and itchy, scratching will lead to broken areas maybe and you'd call them sores perhaps. I'm assuming you mean these are open sores? Not just painful areas? And there is no apparent cause such as shoes rubbing?

If so, sores like that are not normal and need checking out.

      THanks Eileen,

Off to Dr in 2 weeks will show him red sore's on my feet, not cracked heels, never had that problem.   I am trying Betadine on them, to no avail.

    Track,

i, too, have sore feet,  although it may not be the same as your experience.

Actually, the skin tends to peel off and leaves open wounds, at times, which are quite painful. Something like dry, peely skin.

i put a healing ointment on every day, until it goes away.

i'm afraid I am not consistent in my care, or I could probably keep it from occurring, again.

i believe, it's called lazy, on my part.

I use Diprobase daily on my feet and have no problem. It was my podiatrist who recommended it. My feet had been very dry and I had cracked heels which would eventually have opened.

Thank you Barb for your answer.

I have been trying Betadine on my feet but this does not seem to help, mine start as small round red sores which become very painful, they dissapear after a few weeks, then another one will develope in same area.   I do not have cracked feet like some others have referred to never have had that problem.

I am off to see Dr once again in 2 weeks, so will show him see what he thinks.

      take care,  Track

While I was taking Pred and for a couple of years afterwards my skin was like tissue paper and there was frequent damage including sore ( as in skin rubbed off) toes. I found some socks with linings which were a pain to put on but did protect my feet.

I remember my mother being told by the Practice Nurse that she must " treat her feet like babies" ( she was diabetic in her extreme old age. )

I don't have open sores but feet get sore. What i do get with the thinning skin is my feet crack and extremely painful to walk.

I love summer for sandals and in winter i definitely use my orthodics in a wide pair of runners.
