Souldern impigment (totally new for me) please can anyone help?

Hiya everyone.

I have been told I have shoulder impigment from my physio.

Here how it started around 8 to 9 weeks ago I woke up one morning with my left shoulder and top of arm feeling heavy this slowly got work and each morning ing was really painful in my shoulder especially if I had slept on it!!

Don't get me wrong the shoulder pain is not as bad as it was. But it's not gone and my.upper arm near my shoulder feels tight?? This scares me as I have severe anxiety and have read all bad things it could be. My shoulder hurts to raise (pain is not severe but it does feel like something is pulling in there) if I rotate my.shoulder there is always a clicking sound. Not as if my bone is cracking it's like a click noise. I'm so fed up with it. My left arm has had alot of use sincerely I have 3 children under 7 and they have all been carried around by this arm. I'm really struggling some days...some days to feels better others it's worse. But I'm finding I'm constantly tensing and pulling my shoulder up to my neck. It's mainly the tightness that is worrying me. It's not there 24/7 it comes and goes during the day. Does this sound like the correct diagnosis? If so how long is recovery? ? I'm back at physio next week and I feel like the exercises he's given me haven't worked.

Thank you in advance xx

I would tend to believe that some of it is coming from the neck, especially with the constant "tensing and pulling my shoulder up to my neck" - compensating - and the "dead" feeling that you get. However, slightly unsure since you're unsure of the numbness or tingling in the arm and hands.

Shoulder impingement happens because the shoulder blade is not moving. It's supposed to rotate up (hense, rotator cuff - pulls the upper arm bone up to keep connected as the arm goes up and out. If it stops about shoulder height and you feel some pinching.....sounds consistent with shoulder impingement.....

    Are you going to rehab?

I would think part of it is because there is a muscle in the neck that attached to the shoulder blade, which probably is one of the ones you are using to shrug your shoulders and to compensate.

How do you sleep? On your side? Back? Stomach?

I sleep wither on my side (most time it's left where the problem is) but I have been trying to sleep on my right but I still end up on my left. I sleep very awkward with my arm and shoulder almost tucked under me and wake up in pain. I also wake up on my stomach with my left arm under my head and my head is lay almost on my shoulder arm! Which give me awful pain in my shoulder! The neck muscle would make sense. I can't seem to relax my left shoulder and sort of keep it tucked to myself which surely must be aggravating the situation!
