South Manchester rheumatologist?

Hi, my GP wants to refer me to a rheumatologist, rather than go to the local Macclesfield hospital I'm wanting to find a specialist who is familiar with PMR.

Any advice much appreciated.

There is a northwest charity who should be able to provide you with some contacts. Just google PMRGCA northwest charity. Sorry, can't give you the direct link here - and for some reason it isn't part of the resources list that I can see. They'll have a support group as well I imagine.

Thanks Eileen, I've emailed the north west support group for info. I'm getting really fed up, I've now had 4 flares at around the 7 to 6 mg preds level, my blood test fine. My GP tells me he rarely has any problems with people reducing,

That doesn't make it any easier, he now suspects I have another arthritic condition as well as PMR.

I need to see someone with lots of experience treating PMR.

Your GP is talking rubbish. And anyway - you are you and not Mrs Igotdowntozeroin3monthsandIfeelgreat.

If you have flared at the same place 4 times that is your body and the PMR telling you that is the dose you need for a while: the lowest dose that manages the inflammation as well as the starting dose did. Of course your blood tests are fine - the pred is controlling the inflammation so there is none left over to raise the ESR/CRP.
