spaced out!!

Posted , 4 users are following.

I was prescribed 75mg twice a day for severe sciatica. Took 1 capsule @ 11.30am on day one. Within an hour I had to take to my bed, so spaced out it was unbelievable! 4 hours later woke up to be as sick as a dog! Spent rest of the day in a complete daze with the room spinning round. The pain had gone but I think Id rather have pain than the horrific side effects - be warned!!

    [b:71f8d47f13]Pregabalin (Lyrica)[/b:71f8d47f13]

I have been taking Pregabalin for about 3 months. At first I felt really dizzy, tired and i even fell a couple of times, but I persevered because my back pain was horrible. I am now taking 300mg (150am 150pm). The side effects have finally dissapated and I am now reeping the rewards.

I am also using Butrans 5mg patches, twice daily tablets of Flamrase 75mg (Diclofenac Sodium) and Co-codamol 30/500 when and if I have severe pain.

I can now even drive my car, it's an automatic thankfully. I might rattle from all the tablets but I now have my life back.

So persevere if you can, it will be worth it.

    regards

    Hi susie,

I take Gabapentin which is similar to Pregabalin, another epilepsy drug, I am on 450 mg a day and it certainly helps with the nerve sensations, burning etc. I am unable to take anti-inflammatorys anymore unfortunetly as they do work, too many stomach problems from them.

I am on Butrans patches and recently stopped taking Co-codamol and just have the 10 ug/h 7 day patch for pain, I started on the lower but they weren't quite strong enough. My stomach is a lot better as codeine gives me bad constipation, the patches take away enough of the pain without leaving me totally zonked out. Other than that I take about 5 Baclofen for muscle cramps, which aern't as bad on the patches.

I have had a back problem for over 20 years which slowly got worse, used to have steroid injections and lumber puncture but the docs have said they don't work anymore, probably too expensive. I also have a tear in the spine and previous untreated herneated discs and permanent nerve damage.

The Butrans patched are better than diamorphine, DF118, which I used to have at one point, a controlled 24 hour dose of strong painkiller is much better as I would always take all my pills by early evening then be in a lot of pain later at night.

Anything that kills the pain is worth taking but have you considered the stronger patches and stopping the Co-codamol as Buprenorphine is a lot stronger, it can be compared to Pethodine or Methodone in its strength. It is a lot better if you tend to get constipated badly.

    Take care

    Pookaloo,

Your doc should not have started you at 75mg - I got the same problem when I misread the instructions and took a double dose (50mg instead of 25mg). If you can start at 25mg and work up to 75mg over a few days then you should feel much better (at least from my experience).

I feel much better on Pregabalin than I ever did on Gabapentin - perhaps you could try again.
