Spaced out, high, Drunk Feeling. Please help me. (5 MONTHS)

Hi everyone.

My name is Erik. I am a 20 year old male, thin build. 6' 2'' at 170 lbs. I have had really debilitating issues for the last 5 months. The issue is that I feel drunk, spacey, loopy, high and dizzy all the time. It basically feels the same as if you were tipsy or the high feeling you can get. I also have visual disturbances. My vision has become blurry and I have somewhat tunnel vision. I just feel all around out of it. I find myself daydream, when I say this I mean my eyes don't focus on anything (go blurry) and just look at nothing. I think it might be slight double vision. Sounds are also very werid and it takes alot of energy to focus on visual and audio stimulants. Additionally, I am tired all the time. Extremely tired. Some days I will sleep very well for 10-11 hours and still be tired when I wake up and exercise will not wake me up. It is like the type of good solid sleep you have when your body is sick.. My memory has gotten really bad as well as my ability to process thoughts and engage in conversation. Imagine being drunk all the time...first I have been reading on boards like this for a long time now and have seen some people with these symptoms but no answers!! People seem to disappear. I hope hey have solved this problem but please let me know how!

Let me start by giving some background information. In August 2015 I was in an indoor rock climbing gym and fell from 15 feet straight onto my back. I could not move for a good 15 minutes because it hurt so bad. I wasn't able to do anything athletic after that day for at least a month. However, I did not have my current symptoms after this fall.

Fast forward to December 15th 2015. I got really sick, was in bed for 4 days. Sore throat, eyes hurt like crazy, and super tired. It was during and after these 4 days that I developed a headache. This headache causes a pressure/dull/sharp pain behind my eyes, the upper bridge of my nose and right in between my eyes on my forehead. This headache lasted for about 4 months.

At about 3 weeks into the headache I went and saw an ENT as I thought it was a sinus infection. i took multiple sets of antibiotics over the course of the next month to no avail. I got blood tests and liver test at around 2 months into the headache and nothing showed abnormal. I then was able to get into a nuerologist. They were unable to find anything after taking an MRI of my head with a barium contrast.

Since the beginning of my headache I have been seeing a (PT) physical therapist mostly for my neck and back since after the fall my back is sore constantly. I had a neck injury about 5 years ago on a trampoline so I have a sore neck, tight muscles alot from that.

At about 3 months into the headache (3/15/2015) I developed a new symptom, the drunk/high, dizziness, loopiness. I had the headache at the same time at this point. My PT suggested that I may have a blood vessel being pinched in my neck or a nerve being pinched in my mid back area where my rock climbing fall pain is mostly at.

I have been to 3 different chiropractors since this has occured about 5 times to each one. It has not helped so far. My PT gave me massages in my affected back and neck areas.

Also a new thing I've noticed recently is that when I look up (bend my neck to look at the sky) I seem to get some sort of relief? Also ever since the loopy part started (this did not happen when I just had the headache) any amount of alcohol at all will make me SUPER DRUNK, literally like 2 sips. I used to be able to drink 3 full beers before getting buzzed.

I am thinking I want my doctor to give me a full head (brain/upper atlas) to lower back (tailbone) MRI so that my nerves and blood vessels going to my brain can be evaluated. Do you think this is a good idea? Has anyone had these symptoms before? I am now 5 months into this and it is debilitating.

No doctor is taking me seriously because I am so young and the chances of having a serious problem are supposedly slim because of my age. PLEASE HELP!!! I feel like I'm caught in a dream and losing my awareness and my IQ. I am afraid something is damaging my brain and this is going to be permanent.

No Joke... I thought I wrote this.

I've found no "way-back" but, I have much relief in just living life to the fullest and making the most out of every day. I plan my desires and schedule it out in a "priority-list" rather than a scheduled-time. I feel so much more happy than 99% of the population, so I don't really mind the "debilitating" parts of this "Thing" we have. Honestly, it's quite nice being drunk off 2 sips of wine (lol, just took a couple sips of Grand Margarita at my favorite restaurant and everyone in the place was laughing with/at me haha good times).

We should talk more, I'd like to see how your life turned out compared to mine. My Ego is pretty "low" on the Human-Social Hierarchical structure of life-acclimation; but, I do myself a solid by living happy every day, LITERALLY no matter what.

Those symptoms brought me to this site. I suffer from epilepsy & had a seizure 7/9/19 that left me with permanent vision loss.

The 2nd week of May I started to get the Aura that I'm about to slip into seizure that didn't exactly go away. I wake up every morning & shower, drink my coffee, eat breakfast, & hope it does... It's shown up afterward every single day since.

I went to the ER where for labs & a CT Scan it came back clean. I called my Neurologist & all he can do is refer to my 2 MRI Scans & the ER report.

It feels like my Brain is shutting down & I've been clinging to my Depakote to prevent another life altering seizure.

It's nearly like being a prisoner inside my own body.

    Hi Erik,

sorry to read your story, i just happened to come across your post. i have to say i have similar problem. I am 64 years, and was very active, but since this problem it has totally changed my everyday way of life. i started with my problem roughly 2 years ago, i started to have off balance sensation, feeling like i was drunk, then suddenly so tired and feeling quite ill. i had to rest. i thought it maybe a virus, and the dr took tests my blood sugar was a bit high and i had high blood pressure. The dr also did a Doppler test and it was found i had Carotid Stenosis 40% blockage (Build up of plaque in the artery.) This is treated with medication, over a period of time there was no improvement and i was getting worse. Due to the situation at the moment with Covid, i went to another Dr, who presumed i had vertigo, iv had allsorts of medication and it makes no difference.

i do not believe it is the stenosis, the off balance and tiredness also effects my eyes.

i have done much research on the internet and came across this similar symptom to vertigo called

Mar de Debarquement. This covers all my symptoms.maybe it will be of interest to you. i have to add, i did have a bad fall when my dogs knocked me off my feet, i wonder if i have a trapped nerve in the back of my neck. This is my next check. I have had scan to see if it was anything to do with my ears, this result was negative.

I hope you find out what your problem is, take care and stay positive.

    hi

your symptoms may suggest Eagle's syndrome. often overlooked and even ignored by docs simply because it's rare.

condition can be diagnosed with CT scan, or sometimes even just with panoramic dental XRay scan. ENTs are the primary doctors diagnosing it, but even among them there is a lot of scepticism.

check this: www.livingwitheagle.org and check the symptoms list. also there is a page on wikipedia, and dozen medical pages like radiopaedia.org

your case and med history sounds a bit like the vascular version of the condition.

Hi guys. I'm 45 and have these drunk feeling episodes for 10 years. mine of which can last from a week to two weeks. I 've been on steroids for years then came off them as I believe i have muscle weekness in which I had injuries from doing next to nothing. My last neurologist gave me hope that he won't give up on me. he tried me on betablockers for possible silent migraines. I came off them recently after having a longer than normal episode...then he ditched me in lockdown.

. I've had all the tests thrown on me and I give up ever time until it effects my work so much it upsets me that I can't do my jobs properly. I feel less spunky when I'm on the move but bump into stuff. I hope you all get to the bottom of it. My last thought for me is that it must be nerve related so next time ill try and get that investigated. I have little hope. I don't want medications anymore just for doctors guess work, I just want answers like everyone else. all the best 💕

i found this new one one my search. cutting sugar and carbs out even though i dont have that much. just thought id pass it on.

Auto brewery syndrome is also known as gut fermentation syndrome and endogenous ethanol fermentation. It's sometimes called “drunkenness disease.” This rare condition makes you intoxicated — drunk — without drinking alcohol. This happens when your body turns sugary and starchy foods (carbohydrates) into alcohol.1 Nov 2018

I'm definitely going to follow this. The exact EXACT same thing happened to me starting 9/25/2019 and has never went away. I am so sorry you're going through this. I am a 26 year old female, so I can totally relate to the doctors not taking you seriously because of being young. I found that a humidifier gives me temporary relief, and also sitting up straight and then puffing my chest out a little. I hope you get better by some miracle. Having something like this is so disappointing because it changes your entire life.

Hey Erik just wondering have you ever had a tilt table test done? it may be worth getting one done I say this as I get this with Pots syndrome (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) just thought as pots can be brought on by traumatic events I.e falls but I hope it has subsided for you and you don't need to look into it further 😊

i have very similar symptoms. one day in 2017 i was outside not feeling great and i felt a weird sensation on my left arm by the bicept..i immediately panicked and thought heart attack..went to er n it ended up being gas...next day woke up took 3 steps and bam couldnt see anything all was blurry n i felt out of it...nothing i did helped it cause me to have panic attacks thag i had never had..after 3 days i went to dr and nothing..my work nurse suggested i take a cdiff test...that came back positive..my vision stayed auper blurry and to top it off i had fever n diarreah..they loaded me up with antibiotics to kill cdiff ...one day my blurred vision kinda just cleared itself but not to where it was it felt different..like i was not able to focus..and apotty weird vision...along with dizzyness with looking down and pressure on my sinus on top of my nose on bridge..even after cdiff was gone the foggy head..weird vision still continues till today if i get on a treadmil for 5 min n work up a sweat when i get off it gets amplified and almost feel like fainting..if i stair like at a vent that holds filters you knowcthe ones with many lines it makes me feel weird and i cant tell the lines apart ...its so weird...and recently when i drank a beer for the first time since it started i noticed that one beer got me super buzzed almost drunk.. very similar to OP....has anyone gotten over this? what was the solution? im desperate 4 years of not being myself sux.

My name is Jake, I was in my second week of testing positive with COVID. The first week I was doing good, minor fever, lose of test and smell all I felt was still manageable. week 2 comes along and I have may energy back. Except now I have this weird drunk sensation, and at night I have kinda hallucination like effect with lights and shadows. I also am feeling terrible GI track constipation. I went to the Hospital where they gave me a CT, MRI, X-rays. All scans came back negative. I also was nursing the fact I was bit by ticks, this might be from Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I have a doctor running blood cultures to check. I had an Neurologist and an Optometrist looking into that also. while surfing the internet I came across this thing called Auto Brewery disease; brought on by fermentation in the gut, giving the sensation of being drunk. usually from a diet of carbs and sugars, that brews alchohol in the gut. brought on by poor digestion. I am going to speak with out local police department and explain this and request a breath-alyzer test just to rule out.
