Spaced out, high, Drunk Feeling. Please help me. (5 MONTHS)

Hi everyone.

My name is Erik. I am a 20 year old male, thin build. 6' 2'' at 170 lbs. I have had really debilitating issues for the last 5 months. The issue is that I feel drunk, spacey, loopy, high and dizzy all the time. It basically feels the same as if you were tipsy or the high feeling you can get. I also have visual disturbances. My vision has become blurry and I have somewhat tunnel vision. I just feel all around out of it. I find myself daydream, when I say this I mean my eyes don't focus on anything (go blurry) and just look at nothing. I think it might be slight double vision. Sounds are also very werid and it takes alot of energy to focus on visual and audio stimulants. Additionally, I am tired all the time. Extremely tired. Some days I will sleep very well for 10-11 hours and still be tired when I wake up and exercise will not wake me up. It is like the type of good solid sleep you have when your body is sick.. My memory has gotten really bad as well as my ability to process thoughts and engage in conversation. Imagine being drunk all the time...first I have been reading on boards like this for a long time now and have seen some people with these symptoms but no answers!! People seem to disappear. I hope hey have solved this problem but please let me know how!

Let me start by giving some background information. In August 2015 I was in an indoor rock climbing gym and fell from 15 feet straight onto my back. I could not move for a good 15 minutes because it hurt so bad. I wasn't able to do anything athletic after that day for at least a month. However, I did not have my current symptoms after this fall.

Fast forward to December 15th 2015. I got really sick, was in bed for 4 days. Sore throat, eyes hurt like crazy, and super tired. It was during and after these 4 days that I developed a headache. This headache causes a pressure/dull/sharp pain behind my eyes, the upper bridge of my nose and right in between my eyes on my forehead. This headache lasted for about 4 months.

At about 3 weeks into the headache I went and saw an ENT as I thought it was a sinus infection. i took multiple sets of antibiotics over the course of the next month to no avail. I got blood tests and liver test at around 2 months into the headache and nothing showed abnormal. I then was able to get into a nuerologist. They were unable to find anything after taking an MRI of my head with a barium contrast.

Since the beginning of my headache I have been seeing a (PT) physical therapist mostly for my neck and back since after the fall my back is sore constantly. I had a neck injury about 5 years ago on a trampoline so I have a sore neck, tight muscles alot from that.

At about 3 months into the headache (3/15/2015) I developed a new symptom, the drunk/high, dizziness, loopiness. I had the headache at the same time at this point. My PT suggested that I may have a blood vessel being pinched in my neck or a nerve being pinched in my mid back area where my rock climbing fall pain is mostly at.

I have been to 3 different chiropractors since this has occured about 5 times to each one. It has not helped so far. My PT gave me massages in my affected back and neck areas.

Also a new thing I've noticed recently is that when I look up (bend my neck to look at the sky) I seem to get some sort of relief? Also ever since the loopy part started (this did not happen when I just had the headache) any amount of alcohol at all will make me SUPER DRUNK, literally like 2 sips. I used to be able to drink 3 full beers before getting buzzed.

I am thinking I want my doctor to give me a full head (brain/upper atlas) to lower back (tailbone) MRI so that my nerves and blood vessels going to my brain can be evaluated. Do you think this is a good idea? Has anyone had these symptoms before? I am now 5 months into this and it is debilitating.

No doctor is taking me seriously because I am so young and the chances of having a serious problem are supposedly slim because of my age. PLEASE HELP!!! I feel like I'm caught in a dream and losing my awareness and my IQ. I am afraid something is damaging my brain and this is going to be permanent.

I KNOW ITS BEEN SEVERAL YEARS, but this sounds exactly like my son. SAME AGE...same symptoms. HAVE YOU FOUND A DIAGNOSIS?! no doctors seem to think there is anything wrong. all tests are normal so far!

i was suffering with something similar between the ages of 14 and 16. i found out it was mostly due to anxiety and tension in my neck and head. the doctor called them "tension headaches" but it didnt feel like an ache at all. 25mg of amitriptyline solved the problem . im 31 now and the problem has returned here and there over the years however i always just went back on the medication to control the symptoms. the most important part is to be able to control stress and anxiety the medication will only go so far. currently i am dealing with these issues again but they are due to whiplash so ive been treating with various doctors to ease the tension

There are plenty of issues that will not show up on any MRI, blood test, x ray, etc. Im not a doctor so I can only give you advice from my experience. It sounds like what you are dealing with is an overstimulated nervous system. I have dealt with these same symptoms before and although I never received a direct diagnosis, I was able to find affective treatment from various doctors.

Because these issues will not show up on any test it is very hard to pin point exactly what is causing them other than some type of tension. Your treatment should be a holistic approach. The first step should be to accept your situation and even though this condition is debilitating, be relieved that all these tests did not show anything terminal. Try your best to relax and incorporated as many relaxing activities in your life everyday. Stressing about it will only prolong your suffering. Massage, stretching, or even just resting in a quiet room with an ice pack on your head will all help in getting you back to feeling yourself.

It is not something that will happen over night, it will take weeks or even months. Once your stress is lowered you should ask your doctor about medication. Amitriptlyne seemed to have helped me a lot after about 10 days.

Completely avoid anything that simulates your nervous system. Do not drink alcohol, caffeine, smoke weed, or use any other recreational drug at all. All of those things trigger these symptoms for me. Consider giving these things up for the rest of your life. Recently a night a drinking as well as a minor car accident a few days later brought everything back for me and I'm managing these symptoms now. A doctor i saw recently thinks it is some type of migraine that gets triggered from muscle tension in my neck. At some points in life it is like a perfect storm of trauma, stress, anxiety, etc that bring it all back at once.

thank you so so very much for taking all that time out to write that information as I said I’ve had it for over 30 years and it’s getting worse and I do believe everything you said is a possibility and the last probably eight years I have done massage I have done tapping I’ve done breathing exercises I don’t drink I drink I have to a full cup of coffee a day which can easily be eliminated and it is the weirdest strangest feeling how can something like this last forever… So I agree with you that’s what I think it is One thing I did for pain because I have giant cell artistes and I have poly myalgia is I take lidocaine shots just recently every time I get a shot in my triggerpoints I am dizzy for a week wonder if lidocaine is a stimulant I’m going to check it does not have steroids in it thank you so very much God bless you**

ive been having dizzy spaced out feeling now for almost 2 year this has gradually got worse n worse over the course of time ..had every test under the sun all come back negative (so frustrating)ii have a fullness in the ears that has just got fuller n fuller i can pop my ears at all now i also have a horrible vibrating/rumbling tinnitus noise in my head

i think i have worked this out that this is mainly down to inflammation so i so now just starting an ant inflammatory diet no sugar (finding this very difficult)no wheat and no dairy so just gotta hope for the best cos the drs certainly cant help me ..gotta do this on my own now 😦

Thanks so much for all your help 😃

I Just feel no matter what i do nothing helps or makes it ever go away. Its scary to think ill have to live with this for the rest of my life. Im so thankful its nothing life threatening and understand people have things worse then this, but still is challenging to deal with daily and wish there was a way to fix it.

im glad to contribute. every time these issues come back for me it gets very scary. its easy for me to say be thankful its not terminal but it does get in the way of living your life and being happy. when im in the middle of an episode i cant shake the feeling of dread no matter how much i tell myself it will go away.

the most frustrating part is that there is not one cure. there isnt one doctors visit, pill, injection, or anything else that will make you instantly feel better. the recovery is a process and even though you wont feel yourself getting better, every little thing you do to help yourself will add up. this is just as much mental as it is physical. fear and anxiety will prolong my symptoms while medication, stretching, and relaxation with ice eventually helps to relieve my symptoms. typing about it on this message board and talking to a therapist also helps put things into perspective.

listen to you body because it is telling you there is something wrong. if you change your lifestyle and give it what it wants you will eventually get rid of this.

hey everyone. I too developed these symptoms 2 years ago. came out of no where. I worked a super high stressed overtime shift at work in may of 2017. 26 hours straight. I noticed the day after that I was dizzy. well the dizziness persisted for a week so I went to the hospital. they told me it was just vertigo. Well it lasted for about 6-8 weeks and at about week 4 I got the cognitive impairments that everyone is explaining. brain fog, trouble concentrating and reading. Even a simple math problem and my brain would almost just like get stuck and quit on me when trying to do it. I also go the pressure and visual issues. any large crowds or high stimulus made it worse. It did however go away for a few months. it came back in the fall of 2017 for a month and I went to my doctor and she set me up for a MRI. got the MRI in march of 2018 but they found nothing. I went all of 2018 without any symptoms. This year it came back in april. started first with the dizziness and pressure under my eyes and in my head especially bent over. then as time went on all the cognitive issues came a long again. This time though it has not went away. I have an appointment feb 4th 2020 with a neurologist. What all should I make the doctor look into ? I want him to look into a CSF leak, lyme disease, inflammation in the arteries going to my head. nerve impingement. what else should I get him to look at? I'm still also waiting for an ENT specialist. I am glad im not alone. This really does suck it has ruined my whole year and is really affecting me at work and personal hobbies.

whats going on brother, i am going thru similar issues man. But i really think is do to neck issues, i say this because everytime i do shoulder workouts i get this crazy feeling of disconnection, i have tried every single doctor they tell me im fine, screw them, look out for yourself bro, and also check all your thyroid levels, hormones and prolactin. My thyroid came out low so that could be a possible reason. I will address that and also my neck issue. feel free to hit me up

i also think it is neck related. from what a doctor told me, tense neck muscles can active certain nerves that radiate to your head and cause all types of problems. i always get a confused feeling when i feel these muscles are over worked.

hey there, has anybody found any answers to this so far? i have been dealing with the same thing for the past 4 years with no end in sight 😦

yes, my answer is acid reflux. LPR. acid and pepsin from the stomach come up the esophagus and irritate throat and middle ear causing these symptoms. Look into it.
