Spacey and Agitated; Fluox

Posted , 7 users are following.

Just seeking experiences of those on Fluoxetine. I know everyone has different reactions to meds, but this seems unreal. Daily, I feel spacey, floating and just off. Physically I'm okay, but mentally, I am stuck. I have no motivation, am super agitated-feelings of jumping out of my skin....just don't know how anyone survives this...This is the second ssri to do me this way....when will it end; will it end? Hang in there longer...I just don't know what to do. At this point, I hate all meds. I feel so unstable. I've already been to a clinic for help; stayed three weeks and got no better-genetic testing even...don't know how reliable those are....I'm just desperate. I can't do anything....anyone feel like a zombie with this at this far along stage? Sorry to post so often...I'm just so desperate...

    Hi Kim

Yes it did the same with me. In fact I tried at first fluoxitine, then paroxotine. Both caused the same. I remember after that my Dr put me on mirtazipine but that didn't help my depression and anxiety. Then citalopram which I was fine on. Until it was contra indicated with a mood stabilizer I was put On by my psychiatrist. So it was changed to Sertraline 100mg with my mood stabilizer, quitiopine. Both suit me fine and I've remained stable for quite a while now. I have rapid cycling bipolar by the way. I think its a case of trial and error to find the right antidepressant for you. But I'd certainly go back to my prescriber if I was you to try a different antidepressant.

Thank you for your input. I'm glad you found what worked for you. This is such a tortured process....On one hand, I have an ex-mother-in--law, urging me to go the nutrtion route and get off meds completely....then on the other hand, I have those that say stay on the meds, they'll kick in soon...It's an awful process. I really don't think they are helping but hurting me. I have anxiety and now chemical depresssion...I may have to go and inquire about something else; but had the trial and error....thanks again.

    Hi Kim,

Are you feeling hypo manic https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypomania?

there is a bipolar type III which is a reaction to antidepressants.

    just  a thought...

I agree with Latchy, perhaps you should go back to your prescriber...

    Wishing you all the Best!

Thank you Misa...I don't know...I was dx with Major Depression and Anxiety but I truly believe I didn't have the depression until taking the ssri.

Kim you clearly aren't improving. I think you need different medication. Not all anti depressants are ssri. There are loads you can try. The likes of sertaline and citropram may have similar side effects but then again maybe not. I wouldn't go near fluoxetine again. I would perhaps try sertaline but I find it disturbs my sleep at first. I'm currently on amitrpteline it's not a ssri. Please go back to the doctors ASAP. If no joy see another doctor. You can't go on like this. Good luck

Thank you Carolyn...I get so many mixed messages; some say it's okay to feel that way and that months from now, I will be better then others say you should be improving by now...it's very confusing. I appreciate your advice. I may do that.

It is hard when you get conflicting advice but I do think you have persevered long enough

Please make a doctor's appointment and see what they say. You can't go on like this. I felt like a totally different person on fluoxetine never again

    Hi Kim,

Just wondered if you have had a look at the specific forums for fluxotine? You might find some further help there?

    Best wishes - Shaz

Thank you...I haven't looked there...I guess I'm new at navigating the site; thanks for the information!

There is lots of really useful information on this site and other people who have been on the ADs. You might find some answers?

Also what works for one person doesn't always suit another. It might be worth having a catch with you GP?

      Good luck x
