Spasms

My left THR was five weeks ago yesterday. Right from the start I've had yell out loud night spasms in what feels like the inside of my hip. I am fairly sure I haven't dislocated it - surely you know about that and it affects your walking - but I am afraid, apart from the pain, that it is doing damage. Anyone else have the same experience? Also, my other side knee is giving me almost more grief than the hip. Any way of easing it or is it something that alleviates in time?

My knee seems only be recovering after 8 months post op. I suppose it takes a lot of stress from the operated side.

I did have cramp, very badly, at times. Got better as the muscles strengthened, others had it and drank tonic water as the quinine helps

Drink tonic water, if you don't like it on it's own put a drop of lemonade or gin into it smile

ice packs also work for abouot 10 mins before bedtime.

Your other knee hurts because once again you are changing your stance of walking standing sitting, as you did before the op. Love Gillxx

Thank you Maggie. It's really reassuring to share experience via this forum. I'll get stuck into the G&T = double whammy!

Thanks Gill. I can cope with tonic by itself - but why bother? Gin and tonic is the way to go!

    hi sharon,

just leave it to us veterans to come with great and delicious tips !!!

you might still have some cramps, but who cares roght???

no, just kidding -I had them too and found that tonic water did help - I don;t like ice packs, so I used a hot water bottle -

please be mindful of how you are walking - stand up straight, relax your shoulders and take steps heel to toe, finishing step - use cane okay? you are not in balance yet and the knees make overtime keeping you balanced ...

I learned the hard way ... I am/was impatient and a sloppy walker (did not lift feet)

    big warm hug

Thanks very much Renee. I had a terrible bout last night and reverted to Ibuprofen and Paracetamol, both of which I'd given up weeks ago. I shall go out now and get some tonic water. I really thought, when I woke this morning, that I'd done some damage. Now, though, it is easing and I imagine it's just the severity of the cramps which is causing such pain. I dislike the thought of ice packs so I'll opt for a water bottle and a large glass of G&T. Thank you and cheers!

Had hip replacement eight years ago, have had severe pain in right inner thigh ever since . feels like someone is pushing a red hot poker up you inner thigh. Have seen four gp,s who all have said nerve damage, Surgeon will not admit any nerve damage occurred. Good luck.

I'm 12 weeks post op and I still have pain in my groin, my physio thinks I may be overdoing the exercise, as I swim, gym and do Pilates. I do get a bit disheartened as this is a fairly new pain which doesn't seem to ease.

How awful. Eight years of severe pain must have worn you out. I am really sorry. I just hope you have at least learned how to deal with it even if you can't cure it. Any chance of some nerve blockers of some sort?
