Spasms in lowest part of back post THR

Posted , 7 users are following.

7 weeks post revision to right hip, I saw physio and was given some quad stretches - lie on tummy and pull heel into buttocks.

Went to gym that night and repeated exercise only for lower back, buttock and leg to go into huge painful spasm, incurring a loud scream and tears too. After that my lower back was very unstable and I could not bend without it kicking off badly.

Has anybody else had this? It is putting me off from my normal enthusiasm for getting on with recovery.

Thanks everyone

I do tend to agree with Anna, I think you are trying too hard, spasms are your body telling you that u are still healing and it can't be pushed to hard, take your time you will be better for it, in time.

Spasms really hurt, I thought I had caused major damage, I hadn't, but quite scary

Listen to your body!  My understudy consultant told me I could drive.but physio said that if I did and was in an accident no insurance would pay out.  I know I'm not ready to drive, twelve weeks both hips...we really just have to go with what we can and cannot do x

Best to do these exercises with physical therapist or at home and slowly if this is first time you started this particular stretching. Don't want any back problems! I'm not ready to lie on tummy! Never have! I know my therapist talked about me doing that so she can work on the back of my thigh. I told I hadn't tried. I'm barely starting to sleep on my good side! Best of luck to you. And be careful. LD

Hi Christine, poor you! Please remember that you have had a major op! Please take a day at a time.To be honest we all heal in different ways.I had my op last year March 2015.And I still get aches & pains. The problem with me is because I am not flexible always tense in my muscles. Also I am my Husband s full time carer.& he's severely sighted,& also like me osteoarthritis,in hips & knees.Every two weeks I have reflexology, which I find helps me to chill.I also have a jacuzzi when I can.Anyway I hope I have helped you? Regards Amanda

    hi christine,

that is painful !!! were you using weights ? like leg curls for hamstrings ? were you supervised ?  For some reason my body goes into a spasm when doing this exercise while standing and it is off putting indeed - for now, I wouldn't do them unless in presence of PT ...

how are you getting on otherwise?

    big warm hug

    renee
