My son and I have just got home from London where he had the spermatic cord block .Not sure yet whether it has had a significant impact on his pain .He's in the bath worn out by the whole journey .We will discuss at 4pm tomorrow with the doctor from the clinic and look at next steps .He also suggested shock wave treatment .

Hi Pauline - how is it going with the aftermath of the cord block?

There are several cords - how did they deduce which it was this one in particular?

Where did you go for the treatment?

I believe the shockwave treatment is the procedure Wes has mentioned his is in line for. It's the procedure I'm looking to opt for once all of this craziness had settled down.

      Hi Jeremy

We went to London Andrology Clinic .I am pleased with the block he responded well .We are going back this week for the Shock wave treatment and to repeat the block .My son has good and bad day and the doctor wanted to be sure it was the block that helped and it wasn't a coincidence .I'm sure it was the block though Ive never seen him so pain free in a long time .They are still doing procedures just not surgery .It's actually better traveĺing now as the trains are empty and the streets are quiet .They gave us a letter in case we were questioned about why we were travelling and we wore masks and gloves .

Hi Jez, The pulse radio frequency nerve block is an Ilioinguinal new block, but they also use an electric probe that heats up the nerve and sends mild electric shocks. The results can last up to one year, my appointment has been postponed due to the covid situation, but I'm wanting something more permanent, a varicocelectomy or removal of the epididymis, MSCD or even the testicle itself.

That is great news Pauline, I am really pleased for you. I have so many questions... Did you go private? What clinic did you go to? Is the spermatic cord block different to the Ilioinguinal nerve block? This means your son should be a good candidate for the MSCD . I was referred to have the Radio-frequency shock treatment, but its been postponed due to the covid situation.

Hi Yes we went to the London Andrology Clinic .We had a video consultation first which was good as going to London just for a consultation is a bit of a hassle . The Doctor was lovely did the cord block without any problems .My son was good for 2 days but then pain came back .The shock wave treatment he is having tomorrow might be he same as you are having I will ask . The main problem now is hes very depressed and angry about isolation and pain and he's 16 so can be difficult and has been saying he doesn't think he can go tomorrow. The London clinic is very near Kings Cross station so easy to get to .

Good luck for tomorrow Pauline, let us know how things go. Do you know if the spermatic cord block your son had was the same as the previous Ilioinguinal nerve block he had some time ago?

The spermatic cord block was in a completely different place they are not similar at all .I have been asking for 9 months for my son to have the spermatic cord block .It took minutes and although he was very frightened it didn't hurt. After we have been tomorrow I will tell you everything at the weekend .I want it to help him so much .He was a great boy but he is so different now , angry sometimes aggressive and I don't want him to suffer anymore .

Yes, please let us now. I've been wanting the spermatic cord block for years, but instead my pain management team gave me the Ilioinguinal nerve block, which didn't really work. My pain team don't offer the spermatic cord block, but instead they offered me the pulse radio frequency instead. The pulse radio frequency nerve block is still a Ilioinguinal new block, but they also use an electric probe that heats up the nerve and sends mild electric shocks.

Hi I'm not sure. He had the nerve block and a trial of the Shock wave treatment which can regenerate damaged nerves. Both went well and were not pain full .The nerve block cost £250 and he didn't charge for the trail treatment but I think a full session is £250. He was a bit better yesterday and today we drove to the beach and walked not too far .He says his legs hurt but he doesn't do much activity now because of the pain .I have quizzed him about how he feels but it's not easy getting information out of him.I would recommend the clinic though .

Hi Pauline, How is your son today, are you due to go back to the London clinic?

His pain is coming back .We may go next week or week after .I'll speak to the doctor again tomorrow .He's so approachable and really wants to help him .He would rather find a solution that doesn't involve surgery if possible.
