sphincterotomy and enlarged anal tag removal

Hi,

So I've been suffering with a fissure that was misdiagnosed as a pile for almost a year now. After being bounced form pillar to post and fobbed off with hemorroihd creams I finally saw a specialist who diagnosed my fissure as chronic. He prescribed me with rectogesic which he said works 70% of the time and booked me in for a surgery to remove my skin tag. He also said that during that surgery he would we if the fissure had healed and if not I would also have a sphincterotomy. I stopped using the rectogesic as I suffer of migraine too so this give me headaches. I am hopping that the anal fissure will heal until the surgery. Will have the surgery on the 6th of november and i am so scarred. Will go under GA and i am

really scared as I am a smoker too so if I don't wake up after this. Can anybody share their opinions on this if you have experienced, recovery, avoiding infection etc?

Many thanks,

Suzana

      Hi Eric,

Thank you very much for your reply. It really helps. I am so scared as I was reading online some horrible stories. Hopefully I will get through this. My fear is that I will have a big skin tag removed also the LIS so double the trouble. Hopefully will recover soon. My surgery is on the 6th of november 😦((. Btw... where did you have it done? Was it private?

      All the best,

when i met my surgeon i knew i was in good hands. confident and reassuring told me the worst part was going to be my regret of waiting so long... he was right. i live just south of Louisville KY and had the procedure done there. literally signed into hospital at 6:30 AM, surgery was at 9:20 and i was at home before noon. not a single day goes by that i dont think about it. i think after the original damage is done the spinchter seizes so bad that its changed permanently to some degree. the truth for me was my hole was just too small. didnt matter what my diet was at the end it was just under too much pressure. ive red horror stories as well but you have to judge the person that is your surgeon. if its someone who keeps trying to push you to botox or ANY other avenue than lis maybe shop around. if they tell you its a simple procedure and theyve done plenty go with it

      Hi Eric,

Thank you for your reply. Well the surgeon is quite good as he works in 4 hospitals and it's private. It took 5 minutes to tell me that I don't have hems, I have a chronic anal fissure plus a skin tag which is enlarged at the moment and he said that the skin tag has to be removed as it's big which appeared because of the anal fissure and I will have that removed plus the LIS. I am scarred to death but at the moment I am in pain and bleeding because after each BM the skin tag is prolapsing also the bleeding comes from the fissure so I have to go for this! It's no turn back as this affects me also affects my life overall. I am hoping that I won't develop an infection also I hope will be ok to go to work after 1 week as this will be the time which I can take off.

      All the best,

      Suzana

i've had a skin tag removal and lis.

lis was not painful. since, the incision was stitched up, it sometimes felt a bit sore but completely bearable.

skin tag removal was terribly painful for me. fortunately the pain only lasted 3 days. but pain peaked for me on the third day. then after that gradually decreased.
