Hi
Reading up on the choices ,
How painful is the Spinal block also
what does it feel like getting the operation without sedation,
Any information would be great as it helps me understand better what to expect
Cheers

Billy,
A spinal injection does not hurt at all, they freeze the area before injecting, the only thing you then feel is the legs getting numb. I think you should have sedation I really believe you would be happier. After my legs numbed they turned me onto my side put my arm on an arm rest, next thing I knew I was being woken 1 hour 50 minutes later. I have never had any pain since. Promise Billy, you will not feel anything before the op or during, but please have sedation.

Thanks for that Jen86183 but due to sleep apenea its safer if I do not go to sleep.
this is why I am asking how it is without sedation , a little nap would be nice but dont think its possible or worth the risk

As I said in my case it was no problem without sedation, just a bit noisy. You can listen to music if you wanted to pass away the time. Just remember to take the music in with you.

That is a really lovely thought Billy, thank you. Let us all know when you find out when your op is.

You've made up your mind, well done. Hopefully not long now Billy. I'm sure they will know how to cope with your sleep apnea. If it's not mentioned just remind them. They'll want a happy patient. Do keep us updated.

Hi Billy,
The IV hurt more than the spinal block 😃.I had sedation so I can not speak to what it's like without. There was a previous response to a post where the person did not have sedation, just the block - I can't find it anymore.... but the gist was, the person didn't feel a thing, was able to converse with the Dr. during the procedure and was rolled to recovery with tea and a sandwich.

I had a spinal block and no sedation for my hip op, I was so impressed with the spinal I had it again for a different op three weeks later. I did not feel anything but it was noisy!
