Spinal block for TKR after back surgery

Posted , 3 users are following.

I am due to have TKR in 3 weeks. At the pre-op I was told it is normally carried out under a spinal. However I have had 2 disc removed in my lower back. Do you know if a spinal is still possible/advisable or if a general would be better. Anybody had a spinal after back surgery?

Hi Deb the anaesthetist will decide the best way. I know they inject between the space between the vertebrae. A friend of mine is an anaesthetist and she was having a good feel of my spine while we were on holiday I told her to get her mitts off😂 So the anaesthetist will have all this info and use the best method for you so don't worry about it x

Hi Debs, I have had two tkr's and two spinal surgeries, one of which was a fusion. When the anaesthetist came round to see me before each op, I told him of my concerns regarding my back, also I had. a CSF  leak years ago during a spinal procedure. He was quite happy to use a general, which I had with no problems both times. Both different anaestetists btw.
